Question Damaged Chrome Clad Rim?

Hey all! I was taking pics of my rig today and noticed this mar on my left rear rim.. upon inspection it feels like some glue or tape residue, not damaged.. at least I don't think. I thought I'd snap a pic and see if anyone here has any suggestions on how to clean it up without damaging the rim in the process. Do these rims come wrapped upon delivery or something? We had a glue/tape residue issue all over the rear of the driver's side portion of the cab when we first got it.. they cleaned it up no problem saying that these sometimes come from the factory wrapped with plastic.. wondering if that plastic extends to the wheels as well..? Thanks for the help!

Mine had that same tape residue. I got it off by spraying a bit of WD-40 on it, let it soak in for a few minutes, then gently wipe off. I finished the job by rinsing the wheels with water, then applying some Meguiar's wax on the rims.

Yep. Mine had it on all 4 wheels, along with grease pencil marks everywhere. So much for dealer prep! Used a little goo-gone.

Thanks for the suggestion.. just did the WD-40 trick and it came off without issue. I checked the other rims while I was at it.. turned out two more had the same problem (just not to the same extent as the one I had noticed). All are cleaned up and with no damage done to the finish on the rims. Thanks again!

Tossed some of these your way for the help!

I took mine back to the dealer and had them clean my rims & tires again. They told me to try a chrome polish and other things, but those didn't work. They also looked at me weird when I said I have always cleaned my wheels with soap & water. That's what is also recommended in the owners manual.

I had tape residue on my "RAM 1500" logos on both doors. The "HEMI" logo was fine. I think it has to do with dealer prep.

Cleaning the wheels? Soap and water. They gave a funny look on that? What does the dealer use to wash the trucks for delivery? Exactly.

I also had one small square glue residue patch on each of my 4 rims and tape residue on both side ram 1500 emblems. I wasnt real impressed with the detailing job they did during the dealer prep.

It is not unusual for the manufacturer to stick colored tags on the wheels to help them identify certain vehicles or parts. I would certainly complain to the dealer about it not being removed during delivery. They get PAID to do this through The Dealer Prep part of the sticker. WD40 is a great way to remove adhesive residue on these wheels, I would caution about using anything that makes you scrub to remove.
