Default 81 Ram Budget Build

1981 Bighorn 360 4x4, bought truck for $400 less than $1000 into it

The Bad
-was very rusted out from sitting
-needed floor pan fenders etc repaired from rot
-everything was covered in mud before it was parked for a couple years
-had no keys but clean ownership
-tires where badly weather cracked
didnt run
-rotted out headers/exhaust from mud being on them for years

The Good
-it is a dodge lol
-360 motor rebuilt before it was parked
as well as trans
-edelbrock performer intake 750 4 barrel carb
-interior i believe looks somewhat custom with low back seats in good condition
-found out after running it has a performance cam
-someone really took care of this truck and customized it before last owner (16 yr old) got it and let it rot away
not sure if its lifted or came this height but looks great and enough room for 35's down the road

The replaced
-waterpump
-all around rotors/calipers drums pads shoes brake lines front to back
-headers/exhaust header to side pipes
-fuel lines/ rebuilt carb with no choke and mechanical secondaries
-wires plugs/accel performance coil
-battery alternator/voltage reg
-tires ugraded to 33x12.5
-frost plugs hoses etc
(customized ram hood ornament..'"evil Ram'' with red led eyes)

Still to come
-paint job
-electric fuel pump
-some kind of a locker for diffs
- newer springs and shocks

trucks practically new mechanically and all the parts were really inexpensive and all in stock at parts store down the street,

i know trucks not perfect but it was all done on a tight budget, iam a single father of 2 with no garage lol all work was done in a driveway outside with no shelter, brought truck home everyone hated it because of its conditon but i saw her beauty, including some S O B who put sugar in my gas tank i guess becuase they didnt like my loud truck considering i started it maybe 5 times in a year or doesnt like the look of it, was originally going to call the truck " the big dirty" but after that maybe ill get a windshield sticker saying "Sweet Ride" or "Sugar Daddy" and drive around my block smiling knowing the prick who did it is watching lol

I had an 81 2 wheel drive with a 318. Love it, enjoy your truck.

thanks guys, i had a 86 318 2wd when i was 16 so ive always wanted another older ram,

Story with the truck is, it was originally owned by an older guy who had really nice mopars, he had cuda's a nice charger and couple other nice mopars, he built this truck up a bit to tow his rigs to the car shows, he rebuilt the engine and transmission only put maybe 3000 k on rebuild before getting a brand new diesel ram, so this 81 was parked because he just couldnt sell it had too much love into it i guess lol, few years later the nephew was working on his farm for the summer and his payment for the whole summer was this 81 ram he wanted so bad, it sat at his house for another year before his mom had enough of it starting (holes in exhaust made it loud) then lost the keys,
I found the nephews add online 4 hours away from me up north canada, towed it home and fell in love first day, i had big overhaul plans but after i let it sit for a year myself i said no more sitting, dodge rams are for working not sitting so i set out to get it together the best i could with my budget, very happy with it

Yes was very lucky all my parts were in stock at my local parts store and so cheap, calipers $32 band new etc i replaced bunch of stuff i didnt need too since it was so inexpensive,

Its funny when guy goes into back of store to look for parts he always comes out coughing on dust and blows a a huge dust cloud off parts box lol
