Default 4x4 lowering NO HATERZ

i know the bashing is going to start. but yes i have a 4x4 and would like to get it just a little bit lower. something like a 2/4 or 3/5 at most. I really don't know why people have to bash on this idea the gmc typhoon and cyclone were an awd lowered truck... Im not looking to make a road race truck but just be differnt and still be able to drive in the winter or in a grassy feild.

I have lowered the exact same truck/year so I MAY know a few things. Firstly, 2/4 is the lowest you can go without needing to do a set of custom half-shafts as the stock ones are maxed out at 15 degrees with max travel with a 2" front drop. If you DO want to go lower, you're going to have to pay the $$ to get a shop to do a one off set of shafts with high-angle CV joints. The rear can go 4-5 inches without needing a notch, but at 4" I only had 1.5" of room below my bumpstops.

The only drop kit that even claims to work to drop a 4wd is the GroundForce 2/4 kit and it runs about $1000 depending on where you go. They use springs to drop the front, which is what you want for the front for ease of installation. Spindles will work as well, so if you are set on spindles then get the McGaughy's 2" drop spindles as they are the best out there and relatively cheap.

You will want to replace the rear shocks when you do the axle flip and you can go a bit lower with some drop shackles. The rear is simple enough to do, just make sure you get a kit that has shims for the axle to correct the pinion angle so you don't destroy your u-joints.

your truck looks good, i checked out McGaughy's and am only seeing 2wd stuff. will the 2wd spindles fit? i seen a member on another forum use the spindles to make is own 3/5 4x4 drop and had no problems. just a lot easier to swing 500 compaired to 1000 for groundforce

The McG's spindles will fit a 4wd just fine. I totally understand about dropping $500 vs $1000, but when I did it I didn't know any better and wanted something that was specifically stated for a 4wd. You just have to be careful if you do a 3/5 drop because of the CV joints, I know a guy that blew his the first time he did a 4wd WOT launch.

Yeah, it was a hell of a truck, too bad this just happened last weekend

wow thats a shame man, just be glade you guys are ok may have had one beautiful truck but you can always build another. are you going to part it out seeing you had motor work and suspension or what are your plans?
