Default New engine + 285 75 16's = no power?

I recently put in a new engine in my truck, less than 1000 miles on it, and I threw on some 285 75 16 BFG's at the same time. Now I understand that the tires are a little tall for 3.55 gears, but I had that same setup on my cherokee with a puny 4.0l straight six and still had gobs of power. With my truck however I can not reach 70 mph going down the highway pulling a 15' fiberglass boat. I am not exaggerating at all it will not top 65 even at WOT. Now is this from the taller tires? I would hope a fresh rebuild would have enough power to pull a 700 lb boat, I know my Jeep does with the same tires and gears. Are these trucks that gutless or do I need to dig deeper into the engine. I've had it at the shop and they are having a hard time figuring this out as well. It is also running hotter than normal, around the 240 mark, which leads me to think timing is the problem. The computer shows timing is correct, but the timing light shows 17 degrees advance, any thoughts on this?

How did it pull before the new motor? Check your Cat. Conv. when you had it apart? Any codes?

Timing light is wrong, won't work on them as far as I know. Yeah, I'd look at a clogged cat too. If okay, extra warm means either too much gas or not enough. Too much would point to O2 sensors. Too little would possibly mean a vacuum leak, and the biggest offender is the intake plenum gasket. At least that's how I would approach, then go from there. Umm, excess heat could also be a failing overdrive section in the transmission (if an automatic). It'll soak up a lotta power and saturate the coolant system of the truck.

Things I've done since, plenum gasket fix, ECT sensor, O2, IAC valve, TPS, PCV valve, all new vaccum lines, back pressure test shows cat is clear. Power is better but still lacking I think. Still running warm, around 220 degrees. Would a failing tranny make it overheat while parked?

No, but a clogged radiator, defective water pump, bad clutch fan, bad stat, or trapped air would. If you have access to a good scan tool, take a look at the short and long term fuel trims and see what they're doing.

Every thing that can be replaced has been, minus the computer itself. Going in friday for a reflash at my local stealership. Wish me luck.
