Default Tailgate Trim

Ive got a 95 ram 1500. I was wondering if anyone knew how to get that plastic peice of trim off of the bottom of the tailgate with out harming the paint in any way. I want it off because over the years its gotten chipped and faded and just looks bad on the truck. Thanks!, Matt

Default Tailgate trim removal

This is per the 2001 Service manual

REMOVAL
(1) Apply a length of masking tape on the body,
parallel to the top edge of the applique to use as a
guide, if necessary.
(2) Warm the tailgate applique and tailgate metal
to approximately 38C (100F) using a suitable heat
lamp or heat gun.
(3) Pull applique from tailgate

If there is any adhesive left you may have to use an adhesive removal eraser wheel. I had to use this because I went too long after removing the trim.
