Default 1 ton springs on a 2500?

I bought my '99 Ram 2500 quad cab short bed diesel 4x4 about a year ago for work and one of the first things I noticed were Rassini leaf springs on the back. I suspected they were aftermarket. The information in the door says the GVW is 8800, and although thats just the manufacturer being cautious, in my experience to reach that number you load the unmodified truck up to where it sits about level.

I finally loaded it up with broken cement the other day to where it sat almost level and weighed it at the dump scales, which said 11,000 even. Plus or minus 50lbs. Had I known it was that much I wouldn't have thrown that much in, but it didnt sag so I kept loading.

Are these aftermarket 1 ton springs? Anybody have a picture of stock 2500 second gen springs? Thanks

If I remember correctly in 99 Dodge didn't make a SWR 1 ton 4x4. But you could option the heavier rear end (Dana 80) with the heavy sway bar & springs. My 99 was optioned that way. I hook up our TT about 10,000# with about a 750-1000# tongue weight & it barely sets the truck down any.
Pretty much the V-10 & the Cummins truck where the same in most ways. The V-10 uses the same type thermostat as the Cummins. Ours has the NV4500 5sp the same as the diesel. I even believe it uses the same clutch.
My point is the V10 Ram was as heavy duty as the Cummins Ram.

I can tell you my 94 1 Ton with a *tow package* has 8 heavy leafs if that helps any? Mine may be heavier than stock. I put my pig of a slide in camper in mine and hitch a 20' boat and my bed lowers about 1.5" (2000# +/-) and its barely enough to get the rear shocks working just enough to avoid jarring your spleen up to your forehead on moderate size bumps/potholes?

With 1 ton springs I suspect youd have the same problems I do when unloaded and the back of your truck will come off the ground on big potholes and youll avoid some stretches of highway unless your an amusement park fan or have motion sickness pills handy. My 5 and 11 year old think its the best truck in the world because they bounce off the seat?

I haven't counted mine. But what is funny to me is that your 1 ton & my 3/4 ton are rated less most likely, than most 1/2 tons today. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. Some guys were bragging on their F150 EcoBoosts with like over 9000# rating. So a 1/2 ton with one wheel bearing per side is heavier duty than a Dana 80 free floating hub. That is stupid I think.

Id be really surprised if a 1/2 ton anything could hold up to that kind of weight for long. Thats alot of strain on the drivetrain. All i know about the new F150's is the tailgate will rip apart like butter when they back into my front wrecker bumper at the gas station.

I have no clue what my truck is actually capable of handling for max capacity, and I doubt I'll ever find out. Ive hauled cats, bricks, blocks, sod, gravel, campers, boats.. nothing has brought the suspension down more than a couple inches. In fact my camper is sitting on it right now and id have to park uphill to sleep in a level bed.

I don't think this is correct.

94-2002 Dodge Rams

1/2 tons = 2.5" wide leaf springs

3/4 and 1 tons = all 3" wide leaf springs
