An " in store credit " isn't real dollars. It's just a discount off the used car dealer's price, if you buy there again and you didn't. Furthermore, I bet it was in place of any discount you could otherwise have negotiated.
All you really bought was $3,000 of non-refundable prepaid repairs on a relatively new truck, when you bought it, which was highly unlikely to need such expensive repairs.
I see you are only 22 and I assume you haven't purchased vehicles much, if at all, before. It is deplorable that someone you thought was a friend took such advantage of you. However, it sounds like you are irreparably screwed.

That there says it all.

I really don't believe you have any substance in your quest to pursue but if you have the time, then it's probably worth a shot.

What bothers me more is the board's tune. You got brutally rapped not only by the dealership, but more disturbingly, your claimed 'friend.' You shouldn't have paid ANYWHERE near what you paid for the two year extension on your warranty.

It pisses me off just thinking about it....

Good luck in your endeavors.

When we're young we all made mistakes; hopefully we learn from them.

As another poster pointed out you are only 22; it's not a sign of weakness to ask for advice from someone who has more experience and knowledge before you make a decision. It's actually a sign of maturity.

Oh yes, anyone who has a monetary stake in your decisions (i.e. salesman, broker etc.) is never the person to ask for advice, friend or not.

He wasn't your friend period. He screwed you over big time even asking you to buy an extended warranty. That is the biggest rip off a salesman can do to you.

Don't beat yourself up over it. It has happened to many people smarter than you and I.
Like you said, live and learn and dont be shy to ask friends and family for advice and input in business

Your "friend" needs a good ass kicking.

As a rule I never buy extended warranties or store credits. They are nothing more than pure profit for the sellers.

First off, extended warranties aren't a total ripoff. I've read that they do pay and save people money, but only about 33% of the time. On the other 67% of the people, they don't ever collect anything, or not enough to pay for it. I've bought several new vehicles, and they always try and sell me one. They start out at a certain price, and after saying no, they always drop the price of the warranty to try and rope you in.
