Default A small taste...

Well today I got a small taste of what my 2012 r/t might be like when the tune finally comes out and torque management is finally turned off.

I was talking to one of my buddies who's another mechanic where I work, he has a 2012 express crew cab 4x4 red wings edition ram that he's leasing. Well he decided to completely unplug the abs module for long trips so the odometer doesn't read (maybe I shouldn't tell anyone that?) Well he was telling me that this disabled the torque management also because he kicked the truck sideways from a 15mph roll.

This got me wondering so I went out to the r/t, unplugged the abs module and DAMN!! it was like a whole different truck. from a dead stop it burns the tires with no problem, I let off in second gear but it wanted to keep going. Then I floored it through an intersection making a left turn and it basically drifted, going sideways through the whole turn and when It finally hooked up threw me back in the seat and just pulled like a mother f-er.

unfortunately, doing this disables the speedometer, mds, the average and live mpg counter, the gps speedo, abs brakes, odometer (still counts miles in the pcm though) and it lights up the dash like a Christmas tree.

Long story short, the wait for the 2012 tune is going to be worth it. No torque management, paired with faster throttle response and a couple extra horses is going to be amazing.

Ok, I'll bite. Where is this magic connector located? Remove sensor from mounting bracket at wheel hub or unplug the ABS ecm, wherever that may be?

Did it. Maybe because I am CC, but I did not get what you described. This could be due to TM being a response to throttle position vs. engine rpm vs speed. It is built into the pcm base code, and only active at no/low speed-full throttle and full throttle-high rpm shift points. So, removing the plug causes the base default tcm programming to take effect. The shift points are slightly lower than usual, but a bit more aggressive in feel. I have more weight over the rear wheels, so no drift machine transformation for me. TM remains and really is not affected.

Open your hood, right by the firewall on the driver side corner there is a big module with a bunch of brake lines going into it. It has a big black connector with a grey swing type latch. unlatch that connector and disconnect it.

As for your CC I don't know what would be diffrent unless you have a 2500 and it might not work on 2500's

But I know for a fact that it works on regular 2012 ram 1500 pickups. My r/t was burning tires everwhere. Like I said from a dead stop it was burning both tires (limited slip) on dry pavement with no problem at all. Can't do that with the abs module plugged in and TM active.

Like you said, it still counts mileage in the PCM. When he give that vehicle back at the least end or whenever, he will have to sign an Odometer statement and will be in deep poo-poo when they discover the ODO has been tampered.

OK, I read this thread and felt pretty pessimistic about it. After all, I am 1 2012 RAM owner looking for performance in my HEMI. So I marched right outside to my truck popped the hood, disconnected that harness from the ABS box and took a little cruise over to a spot at work that is wide open and unpopulated. HOLYS*&T I know I dont have theLSD but I smoked the Hell out of my passenger side tire. Throttle response is IMMEDIATE. Yes, the dash lights up - trailer brake, parking brake ABS, speedo inop. But that was awesome. It's been a while since I smelled burned rubber like that.

Thanks for the taste.
