Default Catalytic Converter

I was wondering if there was any way to take the catalytic converter and hollow it out for better sound and air flow, but still be there for emmisions. Ive heard of guys hollowing them out but i wasnt sure if this would hurt anything or not. Also would this effect the o2 sensor at all? Thanks, Matt

i have done this to a couple of my rams. if they do the muzzle emmisions i wouldnt reccomend doing it it will most likely fail.one of my trucks started throwing o2 codes and other did not. it did sound better and obviously had a kittle more pep but the exhaust was very rich smelling..... hope this helps you out some

I don't know what your emissions laws are where you are at, but if you get inspected it will fail if you hollow out your cat. If you have an O2 sensor after the cat, then you will probably get a CEL, but all it will mean is that your cat is not functioning properly no damage done there. However, I'm not going to tell you how to cut the bottom two spot welds off of the heat shield for the cat and bend it back and I definitley am not going to tell you that you then have enough room to cut a hole in the side of the cat approx. 3" wide 2" high and chisle out the catalyst, weld up the hole and bend your heat shield back into place. Because that is illegal and the only way to get a freer flowing cat is to buy a high flow cat. I would never tell anyone to gut out there cat.
