Default All aluminum Ram 2016

I hear Ford is coming out with an all Aluminum F150, plus GM is also looking at producing one. Could there be an all Aluminum Ram in our future.

I think Ram will wait to see how it works out for Ford, if any big changes dealing with aluminum do come to Ram it will most likely not be until model year 2017 when they roll out the redesigned Ram.

... definitely more than 2 years out. Actually, '15s will be out soon, so no way will you see it by the end of next year.

Ford has a history when it comes to aluminum, look at the Aston Martin which is now a combination aluminum and carbon fibre.
I can see dodge doing it for 2017 maybe 2018, if Ford and GM are successful. Plus for 2015 you can order a Hell Cat Challenger, it would be nice if RAM came with a 700 HP Hell Cat engine too for 2017/2018.
We can only dream.

I kinda like driving a 6,000 lb truck. If I wanted a light weight truck, I would have kept my Tacoma. No secret to aluminum, Chrysler 300 has aluminum hood and trunk. The only rust on my 300,000 mile Dodge Magnum is the aluminum hood, it also has a lot of paint chips. Should be interesting how the insurance companies treat the new F150's. Fixing dented aluminum can be a beotch.

I guess that you have not yet seen the 2016 Ford Super Duty that burned to the ground, they were towing a trailer out in Death Valley, front left brakes got heated up & POOF !!

Ram has no plans at this time to go aluminum

Ford did it to raise their Tow Rating, less truck weight, more tow/haul capacity
they want the number #1 tow rating

I'd rather see an all carbon fibre truck.

Hopefully not. I can't wait until we see all of the issues with the aluminum F-150, ei. corrosion issues, non repairable frames....

I know two of the Ford engineers working on the stamping dies for the Aluminum F150. They've had a ton of issues. Yes, many companies have been using aluminum hoods and roofs, but an entire vehicle with much larger stampings and more complicated shapes is a different story.

Aluminum behaves much different then steel when stamped. It has much more spring back that has to be compensated for in the dies. I know they said they had bought massive and very expensive dies from overseas that they simply could not get to produce dimensionally correct parts.

This was a huge undertaking for Ford so if Dodge isn't already 2 to 3 years into the planning, R&D, working with suppliers, etc don't expect an aluminum Ram anytime soon.

I also think that Dodge should leap frog and go right to carbon fiber. It potentially has many more advantages than aluminum.
