Default 2003 dodge ram 1500 wont start

hey guys im new to the forum and im needing help..

i have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 with the 3.7l. the crank had went in it awhile back. so i bought a used motor from a wrecker with 100 000 kms on it(running) i did the engine swap and it wont start! it just turns over and sounds like it wants to run but it doesnt. i took it to the local dodge and theve had it for about 2 months now and they can figure out whats wrong with it either! they said the timing is good, it has good compression, theres spark. they changed the crank and cam shaft sensor but still havnt figured it out. if someone knows anything about it that would be a big help!!!!.
thankyou :ethan

I'm not sure if it applies to the 3.7 engine but since is just a 6 cyl. version of the 4.7, this maybe worth noting. Some of the 4.7 engines have a 16 tooth tone wheel for the crank position sensor and some have a 32 tooth wheel. These engines are NOT interchangeable because the wheel is made into the crankshaft. If the 3.7 also has this setup, it would explain why you have fuel, fire, and compression but the engine won't run.

I forgot to ask earlier, did they verify injector pulse and fuel volume and pressure? A defective PCM is also a possibility.

No, the 3.7's between 02 and up had varying tone wheels dependent upon year.

the guys from dodge said everything worked great the computer the fuel system all the wiring.etc everything worked great they. but if it helps anyone it backfires through the intake when trying to start it. my dad thinks it might work if we put the intake off the original motor on it?

Swapping intakes won't make a difference. It's just a piece of plastic that channels air into the cylinders. I'm still leaning toward an electrical issue at this point.

You can try swapping the sensors out. I've never seen the sensors cause a no start but it can't hurt to try. Something else just came to mind as well. Check and make sure that no wiring got pinched between the engine block and transmission.
