Default Ram 1500 obsolete parts already

I purchased a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 single cab short bed for my 16 y.o. to drive for a first vehicle. Excellent looking truck and 80K miles. At the dealer where the vehicle was for sale, the truck had a strange sound while in park but where you pushed on the gas pedal the noise went away. Anyway as a condition of the purchase of the truck I asked them to find out and fix the noise. They agreed and I bought the truck. The truck went to the service area and the next day they called me and said the noise was related to the shifter linkage and had no effect on the engine or tranny and they would order the parts and make the repair. They are a Ford dealer so they called the local Dodge dealer to order the parts. The Dodge dealer calls them back and says four of the parts are discontinued but the others were available. They agreed to order and replace the parts they can get but thats all. The truck drives excellent except for the noise in park. What now. What do you do when parts have been discontinued on a vehicle this nice. Your thoughts and help is appreciated. LR

I don't know what parts you need so I don't know if an autozone or advance auto parts would help you...but check out www.lmctruck.com. They carry a ton of hard to get or discontinued parts. When I was rebuilding my 1988 Chevy k5 blazer LMC got me out of quite a few ruts.

I took some pics today after putting the winter wax job on it. I will try my best to post them although I am computer challenged a bit. I bet my teen can help. The parts are for the shifter linkage assembly. Lots of small pieces and two or three rods. Only four parts they found were discontinued so maybe the ones they replace will fix it. If not I will take to a Dodge dealer and get their opinion. Anyone else had issues with a loud shifter linkage vibrating. Lr.

You could check out a junk yard. I'm sure there are plenty of 2nd gen Rams around. Not sure what kind of work it is to get the linkages out of them, but nonetheless it's an idea.

I second the junk yards. Great place to find discontinued parts.

Or if possible, can you fabricate something as a replacement? It would make a good father son project.

Not sure junk yard would serve any real purpose if the parts are probably already worn out also but I guess it's an option. The Google search more discontinued parts seems a better solution. Thx. LR.
