Default '02 2500 5.9 Gas PCM Change out?

Is the PCM hard to change out? Is it better to buy rebuilt(pre-programed) or new? If new do I have to buy from the dealer? Help please I am trying to sell this truck that I have had no problems with until now.

Thanks,
JD

They are pretty straight forward, just a wire harness and some screws. What makes you think you need a new one, what are your problems? Could be solved by taking it to a dealer and having it reflashed $45/100. I just had mine reflashed after installing a new engine, cost $43 and change at my local dealer. As far as used I'm not to clear on which you can use, I'm sure one of our better seasoned members will chime in.

Not sure about an 02 but I have heard that some of the PCMs are VIN specific.. basically you cant swap them out with used ones because its not specifically programmed for that vehicle with that VIN.
Like I said Im not sure about an 02 but if its something you can fix by having it flashed by a dealer Id just do that. That is gonna be your cheapest way.

Im having an issue with mine also but I have a 98 2500 with the 360 and auto trans. PCM isnt sending the signal for the trans to shift from 1-2 and 2-3.. so Ill keep an eye on this thread to see If I can figure which way to go with mine.
