Default Valve Lash Adjustment

We swapped my kids motor in his 2001 Ram 5.2, new motor and a fresh tank of gas. I have a lot of pinging during acceleration and was told I need to adjust the valve lash. Nothing in the Hanes manual on how to do this, so we need a little help here. Thanks.

Dave

There's no lash adjustment to be made. The rockers torque to 21 ft. lbs. Have you tried stepping up the octane rating?

We drained the tank and have fresh 93, full tank. I'll check the torque. Thanks for the help.

I retorqued the rockers and still have the pinging. In anyones expert opinion, what is my next step? This is my first motor swap, so this is all very new to me. I replaced the cap, rotor and wires; could it ping like this if I miswired the plug wires?

Also, this doesn't happen in park when I rev the motor, only in drive when I give it a little throttle.

I did some checking and found TSB 18-006-01 REV-A which calls for a PCM flash to address this problem. Since this is NOT a recall, you will likely be charged for it.

a pcm update will be a great idea for any reason. but,did u have this same problem with the old engine?i ask b/c if u had the same pcm on both engines thats great, but if only pings on this engine then u may have some other issues

There was a slight ping in the old motor but not bad. We'll do a PCM flash; is that done at the dealer or can I do it myself? I appoligize for all the questions but I also appreciate the help.

It will have to be done by the dealer or a shop that has a scan tool with flash capability.
