Everything affects the shifting, life is full of variables. But what will be the most effective in it's affect, the valves inside the valve body, the calibration, the servos.
If you are getting poor shifts in low gear it isn't always a front band issue. Many times though if you get a poor 1-2 shift it will generally be associated with the band either it needs adjustment or the strut fell out. If you get a poor 2-3 shift it can be a great many things from a leaky direct clutch piston inner seal to a leaky front servo cover.
The famous issue with 2-3 shifts if the "take the foot off the gas then it shifts" issue, this many times is due to a seal leak which is the result of manufacture error. There is a fix for this, an updated seal which has a larger base to compensate for the machining error. Another issue which happens to all the problematic torque flites is the long slide 2-3 shift, result of front servo cover bore wear, when the transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd pressurized fluid builds up between the cover and the piston to quickly release the band, if the fluid leaks you get a slow release causing the long sliding shift. The long slide shift is not only annoying and in a race absorbs valuable time, but it damages the rear clutch pack because of excessive shift overlap. There is a fix for that you can either replace the servo cover with an aftermarket one, the aftermarket ones have a brass sleeve and rubber O-ring to keep things smooth and sealed. Or you can replace the entire servo which will not only seal but the servo kit I'm speaking of by Sonnax has I think it's 15 or 16% more area for a more firm shift and a stronger hold, gives you better 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.
Issues shifting from 1-2 in the D range are usually related to a internal fluid leak or in most cases that front band.
I hope this helps you out, if it doesn't just elaborate more on your issue and I can help you future
the band adjustment didnt work, neither did the speed sensor. it still doesnt shift out of 1st unless i let off the throttle and will shift back if im not going fast enough. im at a loss to do right now...
Well the only thing to cause the transmission to not shift out of 1st into 2nd would be the band still needing adjustment or the band strut fell out, also it could be because of a front servo issue or an issue with the valve body. Shifting in and out around 25-35... You basically have a big problem with 2nd gear, which is not a surprise. So drop the pan, check everything, pressure test the servo with compressed air at 15 PSI I included a link to a PDF of the test ports on bottom page. I know it isn't going to be a rear clutch issue because then none of the forward gears would work, if the front clutch doesn't work then you won't get a 2-3 shift and you won't have reverse, 3rd, or 4th.
