Default What's involved in replacing control arm?

Besides swaybar endlinks, & steering linkage. Referring more toward balljoint/UCA. The dealer wants $315 and they already have all of the linkages apart to do the struts. I can do that, but don't know about the rest. Thanks!

I replaced my lower control arm bushings and the bushings sucked replacing but the lower control arm its self wasnt bad. the lower strut bolt sucks getting out but BFH and somthing to hammer the bolt through the hole. expect an alignment afterwards.

What year RAM do you have? I've been told by multiple dealers that the bushing that houses the lower strut bolt cannot be replaced, and that you have to buy the whole control arm?? They want to replace it because the lower strut bolt is seized inside the bushing.

they sell them now. I read that too and freaked out when i destroyed mine cuz they seized. But i bought them from the local auto store. Only advanced auto parts near me had them

Moog or Raybestos part # K200183 about $32 anywhere (This is the replacement bushing for the lower control arm at the strut fork) for my 2007. not sure if its the same number for 2009

Interesting. I'll check first thing in the morning. You would think that the dodge dealers would know about this by now. Hopefully they make them for the 4th gens too!

cool, let us know how you make out.

I HIGHLY suggest reading this. This is the link I found the part numbers of everything I needed. I had to buy new bolts from homedepot to replace the LCA strut bolt. This guy gives everything you need. including the part # of the bushing tool you need.

He broke his loose with a BFH and popped it out. I had to sawzall one of the bushings out...it sucked

exactly what gonefishin said, I ended up using a sawzall and it was the worst job ive ever done on my truck, but Dealer was telling me the same thing about it being one assembly, but when i got the part number for the bushings went in and gave them that part number they were able to order it. what i think it comes down to for the dealer is they list parts by what is easier for the dealer to replace so selling the LCA as a whole assembly saves them from replacing the bushings, but they do have the individual parts in their system you just need to give them the specific part number.

Well a little update to all of this:
I'm just going to have the dealer replace the control arm(s). I normally like to do everything myself, so this pains me a great deal but they have so much taken apart already that I'm just too far into this $$ wise to just have them put it back to stock so I can do it myself.
I also just don't have enough trust/faith in this shop yet to try and order the moog bushings and have them pressed in. I can just see them messing up the LCA in the process and then I'm back to square one, with more time and money spent.

The bright side to all of this is that instead of paying $1100 for the dodge parts (two LCA's and swaybar endlinks), I have sourced the OEM Raybestos (always liked their stuff) parts for $368. I'm also getting a discounted deal on labor, which makes this slightly less painful.

I will be making a thread regarding this issue with part #'s including the info you posted for me, gonefishing (great post!).

I'll update again once the parts come in and the shop puts 'em on!
