Default Frustrated about MPG

I recently took a trip from Louisiana to North Dakota. This is a 1700 mile one way trip. I took the interstate the whole way and drove like a grandpa. I averaged 17.6-18.4mpg in my single cab short bed 2wd hemi express. I thought I would get 20 or better.

I'm learning cold weather/winter gas will drop your MPG...so try that trip again in the summer and I bet you'll get closer to what you expected. That isn't terrible gas mileage, so don't fret.

I am a Grandpa that drives a Hemi Ram and a Super Bee for what thats worth, my mpg's depend on the road conditions. I.E. hills, no matter how big, wind, temperature and tire size and inflation pressure. From what you posted you are getting acceptable milage.

Post Best MPG

All Synthetic fluids in everything.
E3 Plugs.
MSD Coil, much hotter more powerful spark.
New MSD Wires.
Cold air intake, DIY or name brand, just use K&N filter.
Headers & dual exhaust. I wrap my headers.
Remove engine fan & replace with dual electrical fans. gives more HP too.
I replaced bearings with best available for less rolling resistance.
I inflate my 285/75/16's to 48LBS and rotate every 4K.
Take out & clean injectors or have an injector cleaning done professionally.
Remove ALL extra & not needed weight.
Easy on gas pedal, manuals are better on gas.
Coast on hills, coming up to red lights/stop signs, IN Neutral.
I changed my 5.9 to a 5.2 & MPG is WAY better.
Use AC only if absolutely necessary.

I live in Rural area east of Toronto and have many times turned engine off and coasted down large hills for up to 7.5K or 4.5 miles.

MPG stays around 19-21 depending on how much I HyperMile

I live in a small city and get 10.9 with my 4.7. When i first bought the truck they filled it up from this cheap gas station and i got 235 miles to a full tank. Now that i have almost 700 miles im getting a little bit better gas mileage plus im using 93 from shell. Cant wait to break in this engine so i can get better mpg!

i get better mileage than that with my '12 outdoorsman CC 4x4 1500 and well over 1000# load in the bed. I've had the truck a few months now, and put nearly 13,000 miles on it already, i can tell you that the mileage went down with winter mix. i also see a drop anytime i use 10% ethanol, usually about 3mpg drop if it is 89oct 10% E. i can get better out of 87 OCT with no E!

I now have 80,000 miles on my 1500 SLT 2wd
the Ram new weighed 5,300 pounds
with my gear in it, it is 6,300 pounds, scaled at Mayflowers public scale
I normally get 17.4 highway
with my sign up i get 15.8 highway

I have not done any longer jobs using Winter Blend gas yet this year
i still have cans of summer gas from Arizona in my garage, 30 cents per gallon cheaper over there
