Default Uconnect mirror add-on

Hi all. I'm wanting to add a Uconnect rearview mirror to my truck so that I'll have a Bluetooth connection to connect my cell phone to my stereo. I have an am/fm/cd stereo with the aux jack. I also have an overhead console with compass, maplights, etc.

For the mirror, do I have to go with my 2006 model year to scarf a Uconnect mirror from or can I go with any Gen 3 mirror?

Is the wiring harness for the Uconnect mirror tucked up in headliner or would I have to wire it the old fashioned way?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

You don't need a different mirror to have a microphone, (there are no wires in the overhead liner, except those for your overhead console)
the worst place to have a microphone is in the mirror
every manufacturer except Chrysler, has moved the microphone to either the A pillar, the steering wheel, clipped to the overhead console or the sun visor.

Chrysler makes a stand alone microphone that plugs into the harness somewhere

Are you sure that you already have a UCONNECT MODULE, plugged into your radio ?
it would look something like this
http://www.oemautopartsco.com/index...._image&pID=121
the complete unit is about $300, if yours is not there

If you don't have the Uconnect Module
If i were you, i would find a installer for a PARROT Hands Free device, it will connect to into your radios harness, it will work great, downloading your phone book, press a button to make calls & hardly noticeable.
It looked like this in my last truck, between the steering wheel & the lower cd slot

here is the Parrot device website
http://www.parrot.com/usa/products/b...-free-car-kits
i used the PARROT CK3100 LCD
http://www.parrotshopping.com/us/p_p....aspx?i=148672

i hope this helps a bit
Good Luck

Thanks for info GT. Don't know about the modules presence. Just going by the type of factory stereo and my owners manual I have the base level stereo as used in Uconnect 130 system. I could be way off. Manual said it is Uconnect compatible.

Plus I was hoping to stick with Mopar components so my wiring wouldn't be butchered.

Being that you have the 130 radio, you can press the Uconnect phone button, what is displayed on the screen? It'll probably say Uconnect is not connected". If this is tru, then look online for part # 82212159 which will be the complete kit (mic, module, harness, instructions) then look for PN 82212160, which is the optional Ipod/ USB cable. You'll want this even if you don't plan on using an Ipod, as any updates are done thru this connector. You'll spend about $300 on both pieces. Do the install yoursel, it's quite simple.
After the install is done, then take the vehicle to the dealer to have them flash the vehicle to code "RSP". If you call around, you'll find a dealer to do it for about $50. Some will want to charge an hour labor but it takes less than 1/2 hour (more like 15 minutes).
This is a simple plug in installation. The install guide can be found at the link below:

According to build sheet, I have the REFS am/fm/cd radio with RSAP Sirius satellite. I take it that this is not a Uconnect compatible radio?

There are 2 differennt RES radios, and both are capable of supporting Uconnect. You just need the correct kit for your application. The part numbers that I listed will be for the radio that has the Uconnect phone and voice buttons.
If you have the radio without the Uconnect buttons will take PN 8221322.

Both kits would also use the optional iPod / USB cable PN 82212160.

The aftermarket companies today have made great strides in offering simple "plug and play" devices that are often better AND CHEAPER than most factory options. Shop around, find one that gives you what you want and also has simple plug ins to add it into your truck.

I wanted bluetooth and some other conveniences in my '07....I priced out the different components and found that buying a JVC 2x DIN HU offered me everything that I wanted and was cheaper than adding all that separately.

To each their own tho. Find what makes you happy!
