Default Lifespan of Rebuilt tranny

Hey guys Im looking at a truck that has the 318 1500 2wd Ext Cab. Its a 98. The truck has 224k on it. The owner showed me papers proving that the transmission was rebuilt at 129k however the truck was driven on a bad pinion bearing for about 6 years according the owner. Would driving on a bad pinion bearing for that long possibly ruin the trans? And how long can one expect a rebuilt trans to last under normal use.

I can only say that my buddies 318 lasted for 500,000 with no major issues
it had been taken care of from when it was new, but it was standard shift

I can't see how a pinion bearing could really effect the transmission, except possibly the rear seal of the trans & that is a simple replacement
