Default QC Vs. CC bed, Cut BedRug, etc?

This may seem like a crazy question or thought, but please hear me out. I know the difference in length between a 4th gen Quad Cab bed vs. Crew Cab bed. Is the Quad Cab bed longer in front of the wheel wells, behind, or a little in both? It looks to me like it's longer in front of the wheel wells. Here's why I'm asking such a crazy question. My local dealer has complete Mopar BedRug kits for 03-09 Short Box and Long Box on clearance for $109! I know if I had a Quad Cab, the "short box" bedrug would drop right in (they are the same from 03-12). Since I have a Crew, I'm tempted to still buy, and "cut to fit". The front piece with embroidered Ram logo is worth the $109. I know the BedRugs zip together -- which I'm really not that crazy about. What If I cut the sides and floor, and simply use additional velcro where needed. I already have a rubber mat + Mopar tailgate protector, but would like protection on the sides and front. I figured I could at least use the Bedrug floor and front portion. The sides may be tricky to cut. Am I crazy for even thinking this?

The QC and the CC have the same wheelbase and overall length. So it seems safe to reason that the bed area behind the rear axel is the same, the extra length of the cab being taken from the front of the bed.

Thanks -- that's what I was thinking. I talked it over with wifey. I probably won't spend the $100 to hack up the BedRug. I may just use the rubber mat until I start getting scratches. Then, maybe think of LineX. Or, the original BedTreds are only $280 on ebay, and they would fit perfect. I like to original design better, because it didn't used zippers. The thought of zippers against paint doesn't sound much better than a drop-in plastic liner.

The zippers are high enough up that they don't touch the paint. I've used several BedRugs with zero paint damage in any of the trucks. I have one in my new truck for that reason.

^ Thanks. That's good to know. When I mentioned that at my local shop, the salesman/owner didn't deny it. Thus, I was worried about the zippers scratching up the bed.

the dimensions for the different beds, can be found on this site

http://www.rambodybuilder.com/year.pdf

http://www.rambodybuilder.com/2012/r...mo/ldboxmo.pdf

it looks to me like the added length is from the cab to the wheel well
5'7" box = 40 inches from tailgate to center of wheel well
6'4" box = 40 inches from tailgate to center of wheel well

^ Thanks. That helps, and that's what I thought. It's still tempting: a Mopar Bedrug with embroidered Ram head for $109! The stuff is really light, so it should be easy to cut, and apply with additional industrial velcro.
