Default MOPAR Stirrup Steps & Bent Inner Rocker

I cross posted this from another section in here...

Okay, the steps came in. I ordered two pairs of these...

I installed the first one (front left) and was able to flex the inner rocker panel by pushing down on the step just with my hand while still lying under the truck.

I slowly & gently stepped onto the step with one foot while still holding some of my weight with one hand on the A pillar grab handle. The step flexed down visibly and when I checked underneath, it had bent the inner rocker enough that it's visible.

There is no way this would hold up during regular use with anyone stepping quickly onto the step and heaving themselves into the truck.

I removed it and boxed up both pairs of steps - I'll be returning them to the dealership tomorrow.

Not too impressed...

Can anyone recommend a stirrup style step that mounts to the frame?

That's scary -- and lame. I probably need to check mine after having my nerf bars on there for a few weeks. There was another thread somewhere of the brackets being loose, and stripping out of the body.

I had the same problem on my 10 Ram and ended up going with Nerf Bars instead. My 12 Ram has the factory tubular boards, they are much more sturdy and can handle my big ol butt.

No one knows of any steps or running boards that either secure to the frame or if they do attach to the rockers, are more secure/solid?

Just the factory nerf bar style. They seem to be pretty sturdy..

I am sure our Mopar vendor here could get you a better price but these are what I have on my truck and they seem to be pretty strong.

Thanks for replying.

Do you know offhand if they come in a black finish?

Are these the steps referred to here with issues of ripping out of the mounts?

I found these Dee Zees on Auto Anything which attach to the frame, however it loks like you have to drill the frame - I'd rather avoid that...
