Talking 2002 1500 4.7L Quad Cab Restored (Will Be Pic Heavy Soon)

Hey guys and gals, I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4.7L quad cab 146,000 miles, that I recently got restored. I will be modding it a little and hope you enjoy the journey.

Truck History: Bought new in 2002 by my father, was a daily driver till 2010 when replaced by a hybrid .... Pretty much sat in the driveway 6 days out of the week after that. It had been washed a lot at the local fully automated car wash and apparently the truck was a little to big for the car wash so eventually it started taking the paint off the roof and hood. The truck then developed a dead cylinder and literally was a v7 from 2011 to may 2014, still ran pretty good though. Until the thermostat got stuck closed and blew the radiator and the block shattered. Then the restoration started. First a new engine, A remanufactured 4.7l engine from jasper engines and transmissions. Then came a new radiator and transmission flush, rear end flush.

Gas Mileage

Since, it gets 22mpg on a flat interstate going 65mph with no head wind. 17.5-19mpg at 70mph depending on flat terrain or slight inclines. 16mpg stop and go in the town. and if I'm in a hurry, 15mpg at 80mph+. I was impressed with the numbers, I've seen claims from guys that get similar but never thought that was right tilll now.

And that is 110% stock.

Now is the custom build part.

I have several plans

1. Level it (coil springs) as seen in the picture
2. A dual exhaust system, suggestions?
3. A Edge Programmer
4. LED Projector Angel Eyes/Halo Head Lights and fog lights (headlights ordered)
5. New grille (ordered)
6. Interior LED Map/dome lights
7. possibly blue lights behind the instrument cluster and accessory lights
8. Bull bar (maybe)
9. LED light bar 51"
10. Camo or Dodge Embroided seat covers
11. Husky floor mats
12. Dash cover (ordered from auto anything yesterday)
13. Cold Air Intake (debating on making one or buying one), suggestions?
14. Throttle body spacer, suggestions?

15. IF ANYONE HAS ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE GOOD TO ADD LET ME KNOW!

If you have a similar truck I would love to hear what you have done to it or will be doing to it.

Next week I get new headlights and grille so stay tuned for more pics.

Below are the pictures, the first 3 are it's current state, the last 3 are Pre restore.

Great to see a fellow 2002 out there!
Handsome truck, for sure.

I'll be subscribing to see what you do!

As for suggestions, perhaps think about doing a stock air mod like this rather than a cold air intake, unless you want to spend the dough. That's completely up to you!

That and a catch can. Both are on my to do list when I get the drachma to do it.

This is my baby, Silver. Mostly aesthetic mods, all of which are plasti-dip. I recently restored the headlights as well!

Edit: Might I suggest getting a photobucket or a tinypic account, or using the member gallery to upload your photos? From there you can insert them via link. If I remember correctly, you only have a certain amount of space for attaching pictures.

Thanks guy n gals. This week I should have pics of the new headlights and grille. Waiting on them to get delivered. Someday very soon I am getting it leveled by the shop that put the engine in. I would do it myself but I'm to lazy to want to hassle that issue in 95*F heat.

I have seen your truck kelsey and I really like it. Very clean and nice. I may try to restore my old headlights properly. I understand the wet sanding process so I think I may take my electric sander to them and clean the oxidation off of them. Then buff them out with a power wheel and some wax.

Thanks Roger!

If I may suggest something- Yeah to the wet sanding for sure. The rounded areas will probably be difficult with an electric sander (or by hand for that matter), proceed with caution. As for buffing them smooth, try buffing it with Plast-X headlight polish from Meguiar's! It's worth its weight in gold! The wax after that for sure. I used a headlight protectant from Meguiar's as well, but I didn't use enough and one of them actually started to yellow slightly pretty quickly. The oxidation then wet-sanding most definitely removed what was left of the factory UV protectant. Anyway, that's just my opinion/experience.

I know you've said this thread will be pic heavy, but be sure to post lots of pictures!

Thanks Guys and girls! I got the dash cover in a few minutes ago from auto anything and it's pretty nice. Not perfect but its way better then before. more pics soon. Headlights still havent come in so I will be complaining to the company i bought them from lol.

- Please excuse my fancy air vents. Promotes air flow dont you know!

- Ya think it's time for a new steering wheel cover yet!?

If anyone is wondering which cover this is, Well this is it (Beige color) - http://www.autoanything.com/dash-mat...our-dash-cover

More pics soon. Level kit will be put on next month at latest, and I'm really leaning towards a bull bar. Thanks!

Concerning the throttle body spacer, I would skip that and go with a ported throttle body if you are interested in a peppier feeling throttle response. I got mine done by Dan at thefastman.com and he did a great job, got it to me quick and once I sent my old one back the core deposit was refunded quickly. I have never dyno'd my truck and all I have to go by is my butt dyno, but it seems to respond to throttle input better.

All I currently have done to my 4.7 is a CAI and the ported TB, I get similar gas mileage to what you posted, to get 18-19 I have to keep the rpms around 1900 or so and I get 15 in town all the time.

Yes, since I have looked upon TB spacers and ported TB's and agree a ported TB would be better, Probably going to wait on that till after cold air intake and programmer.

Update on headlights: The company screwed up and sent the package to UPS with a FedEx label so it sat at UPS for 5 days waiting to get sent back, then they waited 5 days to tell me about the issue so now its been 12 days, still no lights and they said they would ship them either yesterday or today. So looks like next week I might get them

Here's some pics to pass the time.

We like pictures, trust me. Thanks for sharing them. I would be so bummed... and a little pissed with the company that you got your lights from! That sucks.

Don't forget to run a little silicone around the seam to seal them, once you get them, just in case they might be prone to trying to leak.

Thanks! And yes I'm a little upset with them. They refunded me %5 which basically covered the tax i payed for them but atleast it's something.

That's a really good tip for the headlights! I would have never thought about sealing them better. I got just the right stuff for that.

Light's should show up this tuesday, after that I'm pausing everything else to focus on the Level kit. I will need new coil springs and longer shocks so I'm sure I'm getting my local shop to install them.

Also would like to pass along a awesome tip, About the power windows. We all know they slow down or even get stuck overtime, So to fix that all you need is a can of Liquid Wrench Silicone Spray! Just spray it on the sides of the window tracks and cycle the window a few times. Now mine are fast as a new vehicles. Don't use WD-40 as it's a moisture displacement aid and it might work for a day or 2 but eventually it will dry right up were silicone stay's for a very long time.
