Default Replace overhead console with one that has UGDO buttons?

I would really like to have the garage door buttons. I have the overhead console but it only has lights and the rear window switch. The parts department at one local dealer says that it can't be done because my truck doesn't have a compass, while another says that it can but the parts would be 430$. Does anyone have any info on this? I have a 2012 2500 crew bighorn. Thanks in advance for any help at all. I'm sure it seems silly but it really bugs me to not have the buttons.

The part number for the overhead module with compass and UGDO is 56046064AC the remainder of the parts are tricky to determine and depend on what options you currently have. I would need your VIN to determine this.

Buying the combined module will be expensive and still leaves you with the need to get the correct trim piece that has the cut out for the homelink buttons or somehow modifying the current one.

It would be much easier to just find a salvage yard and purchase the overhead console or find one on ebay. Since you already have the overhead console it may be easier for you to find what you need on ebay since most of the consoles I have seen there do not have the wiring harness but you already have one.

A salvage yard is the way to go since buying new parts will cost way too much and the wiring harness is not available thru the parts department.

Make sure you ask the salvage yard to pull the wiring harness to the plug on the drivers side of the dash and also to pull the mounting bracket that is held in by the sun visors screws.

Getting the compass activated may be a challange for you since the dealer may not be able to add the proper sales code to your truck.

www.car-part.com

Try this site I just checked and there are plenty of yards with overhead consoles listed. Search for "console"

After my second failed attempt at a pm I actually read the message and it appears I need to post another 19 times in order to use a pm to send my vin.

Is there something sinister someone could use another's VIN for? I can't really imagine there being much one could do with it but I reckon it doesn't hurt to be cautious. (I just had to cancel a credit card last month due to something/someone sinister.)

most of the Gen 4 Ram overhead consoles don't have a compass or the temperature sensor in the overhead console
the compass is in the EVIC display instead

no compass or overhead temperature sensor in there
Just the 3 buttons, ash tray light, rear sliding window switch, & the 2 map lights
