Default Weekend

Okay folks...I'm going to commence the DPF/EGR delete and install the H&S Mini Maxx this weekend. I will attempt to video the process for future reference. Of course, I will submit a post-overhaul write-up of lessons learned during the teardown and install.

Cheers!

Tim

Start early in the day. My egr delete was a b!tchhh. The two bolts that hold the cooler on wayy in the back are a b!tch to get to. Ended up using an impact, extension, universal joint, and socket to get to em. It was not fun (3rd gen so your 4th may have more room)... DPF delete just have an extra set of hands around to help with the trans crossmember drop and keep a floor jack under the dpf to let it down easy. New exhaust goes in like pie... Make sure you install your minimaxx first incase the upload doesn't work. Mine kept having problems, turned out to be a bad obdII block and hdmi cable, so bad that it crapped out half way through the upload and truck wouldnt start. H&S has the best customer service out of any company Ive ever dealt with for anything, so give them a call if you have any issues. Goodluck! It's a completely different truck when you're done!

What are you doing as far as EGR delete? Valve, butterfly and cooler? What are you replacing them with? New intake horn? Just curious as to what parts you are going with.

DONE!! I did the following to the truck over the holidays:

- Removed the stock exhaust and replaced with custom exhaust straight pipe to a 4" end.
- Deleted the DPF.
- Removed the EGR system (the WHOLE system) and installed an EGR removal kit from Custom-Diesel.
- Installed an H&S Mini-Maxx with pyro and overdrive transmission software upgrade.
- Installed a Bak-Flip F1 cover on the back end of the truck.
- Tinted the front door windows.

I am a huge skeptic of claims made by people who say that one "snake-oil medicine" is better than another, but I will tell you from MY experience since these mods have been completed....WOW!!!

I immediately saw performance gains across the board in the truck. Although I have not dyno'd the truck yet (soon), I can just feel the throttle response has dramatically increased. The MPG as well - I am now averaging between 18 and 20 mpg. Took the truck on a trip over Christmas to Gatlinburg (from Cape Girardeau, MO) and got there on less than one tank...450 miles.

I did the complete removal and install myself. It's definitely not hard if you have the proper tools. I even did a write-up, with pics, on it because the illustrated instructions I got with the EGR delete kit from Custom-Diesel were for an older model Cummins engine...AND they were out of sequence.

The Bak-Flip F1 cover was installed in 30 minutes.

Hope this helps!

Tim

Do you have any pics? and how long did it take you?
I am thinking about the same mods, I have to check with the dealer about inspections issues first.
now Im great with tools and following instrucitons, is this a project that someone that knows how to use a wrench and follw directions can do easily?
