Default What excuses have you used when buying Aftermarket products?

So I was on another Thread in the "2012" section and I had this idea for an off topic discussion, so here it goes.

What excuse have you used (with success), to explain to your significant other (or loved one) that you need to buy an aftermarket product!?

Or,

How long have you had an aftermarket product on your truck without your significant other(or loved one)knowing it was installed!?

I'll go first,

I always use the excuse of something is "broken" and I have to fix it....for example "Honey, bad news.....My intake broke and would you believe the dealership wants $750 to replace it!!! Don't worry though I found an aftermarket one for half of that!"

I have had a double din installed in my vehicle now for 1 week, she still hasn't noticed

Well I don't have a significant other to explain myself too. But my mother get's concerned about my money spending habits. The one that always works because she is a bargain shopper...

"Mom I found a great deal on this thing, they are about to sell out, I can't pass it up"

Works like a charm.

Mine usually goes something like this....
"I worked for what I have."

But I don't risk my home, insurance, or living expenses for accessories or just upgraded replacements.

The Ram lowering kit was a point of stress with my GF until it was done and she realized it looks better than before, rides and handles no different AND her and the kids can get in and out much easier.

I used to cringe when I ran the shop and guys would come in saying that their wives/girlfriends/parents would "kill" them for doing something.... Sometimes I would be lucky enough to talk to the "other" party and explain things in a better way than "I want to...". But I cared about my customers and wanted repeat business and I KNEW my product lines well. If you can make the "other" party comfortable with your business, you will have a successful business.

Some of the mods are her idea.... so no explanation needed.

Usually if I do a mod, I'll either talk about it for awhile before doing so (this is how I feel her out), or we'll outright talk about it.

She's a motor head, so most of the mods she understand... hell she drives an RT Chally

My wife is as much or a truck nut as I am, all she asks is that I let her know how much money we are talking about. She knows I risk my life for the money we have, and I (within reason) have the right to do as I please with it. Since she controls the majority of the bill paying, I just say "Hey, can we swing this or do I need to wait till next month?" 9x out of 10 its a go.
