Default Front shocks ???

Hi all , am new to Ram trucks so i noticed that my 06 4x4 bounces from the front more than the chevy and the ford and i didnt have a chance to check other ram truck so some people say that i have to change the front shocks and some say that no changing until they leak !! i have no leak and some times not always i hear a sound from the front driver side when i go over a ramp , any help please regarding of when to change them or how i will know that they are not working properly ?? (when the truck is parked it not easy to make it bounce from the front)

I replaced my stock shocks on my 2006 at 80k miles. Put on a set of Bilsteins and was happy I did, better handling and eliminated some of the bounce of the older shocks. I'd like to invite you to join our Red Ram group, link is in my SIG.

Redram,
I'm at 85k and need to replace my shocks. Did you use a spring compressor?

Do you know of any howtos? I have the Chilton's book and it says to use a spring compressor but looking at the truck it looks like you can do it without one. Thanks.

install bilstein 5100 struts, you can level or leave stock height, either way they will eliminate almost all the bounce and better cornering . make to have the frt end insp and alignment a must , good tires and proper pressures also helps. Iijust rebuilt my complete frt end with bilstein 5100s and mickey thompson atz, 285/70/17. hugh difference !!

Wow, maybe I should have read this forum before I bought these Monroe front struts.... They were supposed to be "premium" ones but the bounce is still noticable. My right front strut was leaking but after I replaced both front struts the bounce makes me nausious! Is it really the struts that cause the small short bounces? Going over big stuff is not issue, but the small bumps on the road cause the truck to oscilate quite a bit. I've read on some posts that it could be the drive shaft balancing... thoughts? Was gonna post another thread, but this could answer it. I'll post some pics of the install as I replaced the rack and pinions as well.

Oh, and I just got new rubber on all four corners and just did a front wheel alignment, still bounces....

BooBear, I think I got you beat... I got a 97 with original shocks, worn completely out and the covers are even rusted away at 275,000 miles...lol My truck needs shocks bad, I replaced all my tie rods which were original as well, it handles better but still bounces excessively on bumps. I am just trying to figure out what are the best shocks and i need tires as well.

some pics of my install:

Getting ready to pull the upper ball joint out to get at the strut

New Rack and pinion ready for install

Theres the leaky front right strut

The bolt holding the strut in place on the top of the spring was rusted solid and we didn't have the right tool to hold the "piston" part in place, it was a pain to get both out. But we managed....

Fun job except for this bouncing now.... Will check the drive shaft for the welded weights, see if they came off at some point.
