Default 2008 Dodge Ram ABS System

I'm still trying to figure out what system my truck has. When I talk to Ram truck personnel, I'm told that I have a 4 wheel ABS system. I've seen pictures of that system, with four brake lines coming out of a rather large HCU & the control module mounted on top of it. My truck does not have that! It has a small unit with one line coming off the master cylinder going to it & the output going to the rear wheels. The other line coming off the master cylinder goes straight to a block which has outputs going to each front wheel. There are wires going to the front wheels (sensors?). The rear sensor is on the top of the differential. The rear wheels have no wires going to them (no sensors?).

NOTE: I've apparently been operating in the wrong section of this forum. Maybe if I have enough problems with my truck, I'll learn how to navigate this site.

If you want to give me the last 8 of your VIN and mileage, I can find out for sure what you have.

The last four digits of the VIN are: 8J220012. What I physically have in the truck is as described in my previous post. "Dodge Ram" told me that by VIN number my truck has a four wheel ABS system. I don't think so! Also, is the electronic control module within the hydraulic control module or is it separate. Can fault codes be obtained from my system or are they only available on four wheel systems? I called two different dealer service departments and got two entirely different techniques for troubleshooting the problem.

I see nothing on your build sheet that indicates your truck is equipped with ABS. If you'd like a copy of it in .pdf format, shoot me an email at randalljemerson@outlook.com.

Default 2008 Dodge Ram Rear Wheel ABS System

After reading several post on another forum, I'm inclined to forget my problem. Several people said that the system was virtually worthless as designed. I had come to the same conclusion after studying its operation. As it turns out, the system on my truck may be working normally. It was determined by more than one person that you need to be going over 45 mph & then see how hard you can push on the brake pedal to make the system work.

Have you tried to lock them up at 45+ mph? I had a deer run in front of me last fall and slammed on the brakes as hard as I could. It never skidded or locked up, but it stopped shorter than I ever expected a 6,000 lb 4x4 whale to stop. I'm sure my eyeballs bounced off my glasses. I don't think mine has ABS, but, dayumn.

I haven't tested my truck at high speed. In my opinion, if you can't lock up your vehicle with no ABS there's something wrong with it!
