[QUOTE=Moose612;971877]I will definitely look into a trailer brake controller. I have the 3.55s. In fact I pretty much have the exact same truck as Ransram except for a 2012. the trip is still a few months away. I will definitely be taking pics of it![/QUOTE

3:55 gears, it will be a long trip for you. Transmission hunting alot. Your truck will handel it, but not well. Sorry.

^^^^^^ just make sure you use tow/haul. When in tow/haul the trans was not hunting and my tow with the bay liner was in hilly terrain. My trans never got over 69 degrees C and the truck handled beautifully. I only towed it for 200 miles and it did seem like I was always on the gas however my truck did handle the load NP just expect to use a lot of gas.

Yeah I'm expecting to suck gas lol. I have to pull a 12ft trailer this week. I know its quite a bit smaller than what I'll be pulling but the terrain I have to go through is pretty hilly so I can start to get an estimate of what I'll be getting.

Moose612, pulling 200 vs 6000 miles is apples and oranges. I only use my Ram to pull my 4500 lb boat. Over 10,000 miles in 1.5 years. 1st Ram had 3:55 gears and was a terrible puller. I now have 3:92s, a huge difference. Even in tow haul, and 3:55 gears, the transmission will hunt alot unless he has a tail wind and going down hill.

Well rest assured I was not simply going down hill the whole way with a tail wind I'm only trying to convey real world experience with a similar truck under similar conditions. The bay liner was grabbing alot of air due to its height above my tailgate, i doubt the batmobile will induce as much drag. If I felt that my Ram was under powered or the trans was struggling I would have told him this. As stated already the one thing I remember well is how much fuel I used. The 6000 lbs is on the upper end but well within the max allowed for my configuration. Moose612, I think that a test with the lighter trailer is a good test to get a feel for how it performs, you are going a lot further.

So am I. Its unfortunate that so many on this form convince others that the Ram with 3:55 gears is a good puller. Fact is, its not. I have owned alot of half ton pickups, all makes. Ram with 3:55 gears was the worst puller of the bunch. If he is going to pull that kind of weight, 6,000 miles with his Ram, I hope he does better than I think he will.

Agree, I pulled this boat for a friend and the last thing I wanted to do was damage my truck over a favour. So I checked and asked questions just like Moose612 is doing. I did have a safety margin on the weight so even with the 3:55's I agreed to tow it. The whole time I was towing this load I was watching my temps on the EVIC and was driving very conservatively. With the tow/haul (essential by the way) my Ram did a decent job however would 392's have helped, absolutely. As long as he takes his time, watches his temps and uses tow/haul the truck should be fine. He will be happy to dump the load when he gets to his destination, I remember how nimble my Ram was after dumping that boat. curious, what was the year, body style and engine size in your 1st 3:55 Ram?

My 1st Ram was 2010, Hemi, 4x4 club cab. 2nd Ram 2011, same truck with 3:92 gears. I agree on using tow haul. May even want to pull in a lower gear. That will help with the transmission hunting.
