Default Water Temp switch replacement issue

My temp gage was non functioning. I replaced the broken temp sending switch with a new replacement switch Standard TS271. Now the gage functions but the needle goes all the way over into red zone after about 5 minutes of running the engine. I have verified temps on the engine using an IR temp gun and everything is well within the 180-210 range. The thermostat is opening. Any thoughts as to why the gage would now peg itself? I verified that the replacement part is a direct replacement for the Mopar number 56027011.
The sender is a single wire connector and appers to be firmly seated on the sender

Oh the gauge it self is probably no good anymore, or thinking about it maybe just a corroded wire, these are all resistance based.
