wow - it seems like people here have gotten amazing deals - $10+K /20% off sticker seems incredible.

Looking at 2014s for pre-order - dealers are dropping about 3K from sticker or ~6% (not including any incentives that may be available upon time of delivery)

Apparently there is a lot more room for negotiating if they have the truck on the lot. I'm checking w/ a few more dealers @ 2014s.. doesn't appear to be a lot of negotiating room though.

Sticker was $43,365, dropped to $33,938 before trade and down payment. Difference of $9427... No tax in this state, would have been an easy 2k more. I am very happy!

It shouldn't matter if its on the lot or not. It's all about invoice price (not msrp) minus dealer incentives.

If you can get cost + 1.5% you are good to go, the place I bought mine gave me straight cost. They make money on volume not individual sales.

I really saved the money with the dealer incentives. Being that we agreed to the dealer incentives at time of sale and the fact that they would honour any new incentives at time of delivery, I ended up saving over $15K.

If the dealer sells a truck that's on their lot it reduces their inventory costs, that's why dealers will typically give you get a better deal on a truck on their lot.

Invoice tracks perfectly as a percentage of MSRP, at least with SLT Crews. Base invoice is 92.6% of base MSRP. Options invoice is 85% of total options MSPR. No invoice discount on Destination. The formula:

.926 x (BaseMSRP) + .85 x (OptionsMSRP) + Destination = invoice

gets me within about $20 of what is printed on the invoice or what you can build at true car or edmunds. Close enough for all my comparisons.

How do you get a dealer to disclose holdback and their other incentives? I have a hard enough time getting them to write down a true sales price and document fee.

Any time they had to do a dealer trade, two dealers are going to have to do paperwork and someone is going to have to move the truck. Someone has to pay for that. Could be the dealer takes it out of his commission out of the goodness of his heart, or he just reduces his discount to you. I'm betting on the later.

In Canada, we have a service called carcostcanada they detail the dealer holdbacks, incentives both lease and cash/finance, finance rates and the detailed invoice pricing for the vehicle and an itemized list for each option.

I have used the service for myself on 3 vehicles and have helped friends buy at least 4 other vehicles. When buying my wife's Mitsubishi the manager sat me down at their computers and together we went line for line and the costs were bang on. We were actually arguing about a discrepancy that I was not willing to pay. In the end it was not included in the price.

I always only pay what my number works out to, in the past I have always allowed them 1.5% for profit because they have to run the place. With this last dealer I went through, they didn't even care they just wanted the volume.

Chrysler dealers do make profit on individual sales, especially by adding on things like protection packages, warranties, security etching, etc. However they make the bulk of their volume moving vehicles with kickbacks offered on x amount of vehicles sold per month plus exponential bonuses offered on every x after that amount.

One arm and one leg.

This was the most expensive vehicle I have ever bought. Got a pretty good deal though (i think). I got 1% below inventory with my work discount + rebates (6K) and they gave me $500 more than I bought my Jeep JK for.

I think all in all I got 8k off the sticker and a really good trade in.
