Default fuel economy help!!

I currently have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.9 gas. Im currently getting around 8-10 mpg, and thats with keeping my foot off the gas petal. I already have a K&N airfilter to help with gas mileage. I was hoping that i could get a good list of things to help out with fuel economy such as electric fans, and performace chip (including what brand type etc and where i can get it, a link if possible) also a price for some of these things would be great! thanks!!

Open up your exhaust! It will sound awesome and can help a little..

That sounds like your mileage is pretty low..I have a 2500 with the 5.9 and consistently get 12mpg and sometimes more depending on how I drive

Is your check engine light on?

I wouldn't do electric fans. I ran a Taurus efan on my old truck and it wasn't nearly as reliable as stock and a lot of hassle.

I just installed a CAI and it seems my gas mileage has actually dropped. I'm looking into a SCT from hemifever.

I can't comment on the exhaust. I bought the truck with a Magnaflow 18" muffler and duals. It sure does sound good though.

What gear ratio do you have? If its 4.10, than you might be screwed...

Start saving up for a hemi. Don't mean to sound like a dick, but all of the friends that I've had with 5.9's complained about mileage. One buddy with a Dakota with a 5.9 and 5 speed manual gets way less than my Ram.

You're driving the wrong vehicle to want better mileage. It's just NOT gonna happen. I've had two of the 5.9's and I always got around 8 mpg. I had CAI, opened exhaust, programmers, etc. and my mileage never improved. For the lack of power that it puts out as opposed to the mileage you get......... Like someone suggested, move on to a newer model if you want any kind of improvement. Sorry, but that's about the extent of it.

Do you know what code you're throwing with the CEL? You should look into that first - it may lead you to part of your answer.

You can read the code by having your vehicle turned off, then turning the key to the on position, but not running, then back off. Do that 3 times and whatever codes you have will appear on your odometer.
