Default My Mother is very ill. Prayer's needed ya'll

For the last 30 or so years (since I have been alive) my mother has had thyroid issues. She has been on Synthroid for all of my 27 years. Lately though, the last few months have been rough. Unexplained Sudden onset arthritis, joints so painful she screams and cry's in her sleep. She describes her major joints as feeling as if they are on fire. She also seems to have extreme light sensitivity, sunburning with or without sunblock in the texas sun (even winter) in simply minutes.

Thanksgiving day, she was so sick (vomiting) that she could not cook, nor eat with the family. She thought it was just the flu, but the doc took bloodwork, which didn't look right so she sent it off for more concise testing. It has only gotten worse since then, and she is extraordinarily good at hiding this from everybody. So much so that my father (not a neglectful man, but extremely busy traveling for work), does not even know about this. My brother is so busy with his own goings on (new job, 2nd baby on the way, etc) that she hasnt wanted to bother him. I can't honestly say why she waited so long to tell anyone, but its done with now, so i cant harp on that. What I can do is what I did. I immediately called my dad on his business line in Dubai and told him to come home now. He is on his way. He asked what was going on, and I simply said "Mom's sick again" and thats all it took. His response? "I am heading to the airport right now."

What the doctors have found so far is that her entire body (not just her thyroid) is being attacked by this disease. (found this out after my first post about it). ANYTHING her immune system deems foreign, including food, is expelled as rapidly as possible in any direction it can be. She has not absorbed hardly any nutrients for weeks now, (evident by bloodwork and vomiting/diarrhea multiple times a day) yet she is gaining weight at a rapid rate, nearly a pound a day. Its destroying her kidneys (extremely high protien levels in urine), her lymph nodes, her thryoid is less than 2% functional, Her entire system is so out of whack, they havent seen anything like it before. She has been seeing specialist after specialist, and nobody can figure it out. So now, they are doing more tests, specialized tests. The one she told me about is the approach of making her take a different random drug each week for the next 6 months, and writing down how it makes her feel, till they find one that works. Where the FACK is medical science? What kind of a treatment is "take random pills till we see one that works"?

She is consulting a holistic "doctor" who is working with her Primary Doctor because her primary doctor is at her wits end. They are working together to come up with a plan, and I pray it happens soon. But her doctor is running out of options. My mom said the next step is immunosuppressant meds and plasmaphoresis. Neither of which is acceptable to her. Doctor says it may be the only way to keep her body from killing itself, but anything, even a common cold, could take months to recover from, if at all. My mom said not a chance in hell. She watched her father go out that way. She "ain't doin' it". Her primary care told my mother, that her symptoms approximate a cross between severe Lupus, Acute Organ Rejection, and cancer...but no disease known to man exhibits all symptoms at the same time.

We are, at this point, doing all we can. Her doctor told her that at this point, all they can do is treat the symptoms as they show up while they keep searching for the root cause. She gave my mother 6-8 months tops if no progress is made on a prognosis and treatment.

Anyone who has met my mom is better for having done so. She is the absolute sweetest, kindest, and toughest person I have ever come across. Wishing I could fight it for her, but in the end, I know shes a tough negotiator, and she ain't goin' nowhere without a fight.

Well you have my prayers, I truly hope they can find someway to help her. Having to see a parent suffer and not being able to do anything to help is the absolute worst.

This is sad news Josh. My prayers go out to your mother and to you and your family.
I truly hope the root problem is exposed soon so that proper and targeted health care can be established. Sorry to hear that you have yet another item of this nature on your plate.

An ill parent is hard to deal with, harder on the patient of course
My thoughts are with Her

i may be way off base, but maybe a old Mexican cure for temporary relief of the arthritis may be as simple as taking a honey bee & laying it in the crook of the arm & closing it until the bee stings, then releasing the bee
