Default MPG after New TC And Trans Flash

So I am one of the many that had the famous torque converter rattle in my 2010 Ram and long story short I am now on my 2nd replacement torque convertor from the dealer. While the truck was in there I had mentioned to them about sometimes having some shifting issues so they also did what they told me was the "Driveability" falsh to the trans.
So I have had the truck back for alittle over a month now on the 2nd TC and all the previous issues seem to be fixed and the truck is driving well. Hoever, the only down side now that i have noticed is my MPG is now worst. I drive pretty much the same roads and hit the same gas station each time and after the new TC and Trans Flash my MPG are noticeably less then before these repairs.

Is there anyone else that has had their torque converter replaced and or trans flashed with the drivability flash that has noticed worst MPG? I am not sure if it is the new remanufactured TQ or the flash or a combination of both causing it.

Are you factoring in the weather change? A lot of us lost 2-3 mpg's when the cold weather hit. Around mid November mine dropped from 17 to 14 avg under same conditions. Plus the "winter gas" blend is bad on fuel mileage.....
If the trans flash makes the tranny shift later instead of constantly trying to keep the rpms low like they do from the factory, that would decrease mpg's. Bump up your tire psi to 38. All 4 of my tires dropped 5 psi once the cold front hit.

Hey there SC Express, so the winter gas changes the fuel economy that much. I am 2 hrs. north of you in Ft Mill Sc and was wandering why my fuel economy seemed a little off, I was about to take to dealer and have it checked.

^^Afraid so. There was thread in the 2012 forum about it, a lot of guys are having the same results lately. I had never heard of winter blend gas until I read some very good info. from credible sources in that thread.

I think the colder weather hurts mileage more than the "winter gas". Either way, I've lost 2 mpg. Can't wait for Spring.

thanks for the replies.

I have been keeping track of my MPGs with an app on my phone since I got it so I have a good list of previous MPGs through all times of the year. Unless the winter gas is worst then in past years, I am assuming it is something related to the new TQ and Flash that is causing it. That is the only difference with my truck vs last winter. I also check my tire psi once a month so those are all in good order too. Was just wondering if anyone else with these repairs noticed a difference too. I would think any trans flash released by Dodge would be do the opposite and maybe even improve 'Drivability". I guess in a few months when the winter blend is gone I will have a clearer picture.

Any other Opinions? Could a torque converter or a trans flash make a significant difference in MPG? After driving it some more, I am not sure if it is just me but it almost feels like the truck does not coast as well and I have to keep my foot in the throttle more to keep it at speed?

Like I said before, I keep track of my MPG on an app on my phone and last winter I avg right at about 15mpg, and this winter after i got the TQ replaced and trans flashed I am at 13mpg. I drive the same route everyday that I did last year and hit the same gas station etc.. Everything is the same except for the tq and flash. Truck is also well maintained, tire psi checked monthly and the spark plugs where just replaced at 30k and would think if there was a problem with misfires that it would trip the check engine light.

I am going to the dealer in a few weeks and thats why i am trying to get an understanding on if anything could be causing this change in MPG that i can discuss with them.

thanks again for the help

You're MPG might have been effected by the flash... What I mean by this is that the dealer could have reset (flashed) your transmission to Learn mode. So until it learns you're driving habits, it's shift points are not optimal.

You don't do anything other then drive it like you normally would. Over so many miles and driving cycles it works it's magic. I'd always heard of an engine doing this, but over on a Ram diesel forum I'm on, there's a transmission engineer that replies at times and he tells people, at times, to have the dealer put the transmission in learn mode.... basically a reset to factory. I think the guy is on this site to, but rarely replies because his specialty is the 68RFE.
