Default 3 Way Comp Set Mounting Options

Hey guys, I bought this Hertz 3 Way comp set for my front stage in my 2010 quad cab ram.

Here

I am going to feed them quite a bit of power (bridging 4 channel amp to power just these 2 comp sets)

What do you think would be my best bet for staging?

I originally wanted to do the 6.5 in the door, with the mid and tweet in the a-pillar (custom project) But my audio shop quoted me $300 to do so.

They recommended putting the 6.5 and mid in door right next to each other and the tweet in the sail. He advised against putting the mid in the factory dash facing up towards windshield.

What do you think would be my best bet?
Surely making a mdf baffle to house the 6.5 and a 3 inch slightly above that wouldn't be too hard or do you think their will be room in the speaker cutout on the door panel for that to work, don't really want to mount anything to the outside of the door.

Thanks for your thoughts.
- Logan.

6.5 in doors, 3 inch in the dash and tweeters in doors with 6.5.

I wouldn't bridge that amp when running component speakers. You will be blending the signals to a mono which will disrupt the staging some.

I'd follow your shop's recommendation. Better yet, have them wire everything, and temporarily mount/hold the drivers until you find the sweet spot. I did this with tweets, and it didn't take long to determine they would sound horrible in the dash, and sound good in the sail panel.

Depending on the amp, it perfectly fine to bridge as long as it's still sending a full-range signal. I assume you are going to run them passive, an use the Hertz cross-over.

It's all speculation until you play around with placement. So many variables.
Obviously the 6.5 should go into the doors, but I would play around with the 3" and the tweets and see what sounds the best. Power levels, crossover points, slopes, etc...all play a role in how and where your sound stage is. I've seen the 3" in build-outs down by your feet sound great with tweets off axis in the sails. I've also seen custom build-outs on the sails (slightly angled toward driver) with the 3" and tweet sound great. And I've seen 2-way sets murder 3-way sets because guys don't know what they're doing.

^^Truer words....^^

3 way's aren't for the beginner....sometimes it's easier to drop in a 2 way and call it done. Install is everything...you're gonna have to spend some time auditioning different locations if you want it to really sound good.

Really you should do all 3 as close to each other as possible and as far away from you as possible and equalize R to L distance. This is why you see so many kick setups.
I'd try 6.5 in door, 3" and tweet mounted coaxially w a bridge in some kicks. If not the do mid and tweet in sail panel still mounted like a coax for on axis response and less angles to fight for staging and imaging.
