Default Stock gear ratio in a 98 4X4 rear end.

Does anyone know the stock rear gear ratio in a 98 Ram 1500 4X4 with a 5.2L?

Default Exact same truck

I have the exact same truck that you have. I ordered it out brand new. I had the choice of a 3.55 or 3.73 axle ratios. I took the 3.55. Usually there is a metal tag near the rear diff with the number. Or you can jack up the rear, block the tires, put the trans in neutral, and compare the driveshaft revolutions to the tire revolutions as you turn the driveshaft by hand.

Default

If you pop the hood, there should be a spec sheet with the gear ratio on it. I'm pretty sure that all 2nd gens were put at 3.55 unless requested otherwise (I've got a 97 1500 and it's got 3.55 gearing), but it wouldn't hurt to look at the little cheat sheet under the hood. It'll be right in front of your face once you lift the hood out of the way
