Default Cold Air intake

I know theres articles already posted in here but figured I would post this as well. I am tossing up the idea of installing a CAI system on my '14 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi. I have had K&N CAI before on my Avalanche and 1 Silverado. I am looking at the K&N 63 series. The only thing I am unsure about is the MAS airflow sensor. I see the K&N has an adapter for it. My truck is completely stock. Will or should I change the exhaust, or can I just add the CAI? Right now, during the winter months, I am averaging between 17-19MPG. Does the CAI actually increase fuel economy? I just don't want any problems such as codes and etc, once I install it. Will the increase in HP, diminish the MPG a bit, as usually more HP equals less fuel mileage.

With any CAI on stock engine, many claim add on power, many do not. In my own experience with the K&N system on other vehicles, it did not seem to add any more power or improve the mileage claimed. I did a DIY CAI on my 15 RAM Hemi. Drove it before and after the install and IMO, after add on, it did improve the power when passing from about 40 mph on up, but no improvement in mileage, no additional "sound" from engine as compared to stock when stomping on the throttle, like you'll get from most of the other CAI systems.

Planning on any other performance mods? I personally prefer Vararam or S&B.

I've got the k&n 631561 on my truck, the trick with getting the IAT sensor to fully seat is a little bit of petroleum jelly so it slides right in, the extension for it is plug and play. The only thing that was some trouble was getting the crankcase vent hose cut and fit right. As far as mpg, I've had mine on for 6 or 7 months, have seen a slight increase, maybe .5 miles. Definitely has a bit better throttle response, no check engine light or driveability issues. It makes a good noise, with the hood open you can hear it sucking air, on road you hear it in cab above 3000 rpm, especially when you floor it.

I got mine on sale for 250ish and they had a $25 rebate, which I forgot to mail in, also you should definitely change the muffler, I prefer LAAMF, it increases smiles per gallon exponentially.

K&N is not a CAI, if the filter is exposed on the top it's a hot air intake, K&N is hoping the hood will seal it. Look at one of the many enclosed systems on the market like and S&B to retain the true cold air intake like the truck came from the factory with.
Just my 2 cents.

lol, ok. I must be getting old

My truck has something added to the exhaust and sounds great when your not using eco. When eco is on it sounds like crap. Needless to say I stay in manual mode all the time.

The exhaust looks stock, but I think they may have added glass packs. It has a raspy sound when you really get on it.
