Default Ipod integration for a 2009 REN

Hello all,

I hate to start another thread for an old issue, but i give up. I've searched the site for the answer, but i just can't seem to find a definitive answer. Seems like there are multiple solutions based on each individual problem. Anyway, i have an 09 Sport with a REN radio, non-nav. All i want to do is use my Ipod to play music. But i don't want to just randomly by cables in the hopes it will work, and that i may control the Ipod using the HU. After reading other threads, i decided to look behind the glove boxes for any unused connections. Only found one. It only has two wires, so i figured that wasn't used for the Ipod cable. No USB port in the upper glove box, and no rolled up cable within site. The only thing i didn't do is remove the HU.

So, my question really is, what cable do i need, and will i be able to control the ipod thru the HU with it?

Thanks in advance.

The iPod cable when the 2009 Ram leaves the factory, is tucked behind the radio, you have to remove both glove compartments to look behind the radio

if you are a 2nd owner, the cable may have been removed

This is the REN 430 radio information, in condensed form
http://www.dodge.com/en/owners/quality/ren/
look at the Auxiliary Mode

this is the complete REN 430 radio manual
http://www.oemautopartsco.com/produc...N%20Manual.pdf

how to remove the radio, it is fairly simple
without full floor console

Thanks for the info. I am the first owner. I did remove both glove boxes, but didn't see anything. I guess i'll pull the HU next.

I don't see any image
Usually if there is a black box like thing, about a bit bigger than a pack of smokes over there, it is the Uconnect Module

read about the AUX mode here
http://www.chrysler.com/en/owners/quality/ren/

this person also had the same general question, XSDBS answers are usually right on
http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=130096

look at this image for the black rectangular box,
is what you are talking about, look sort of like this ?
read the description at the bottom of the page
where it reads ....
Hands-free calling and a iPod integration in one
note the line that reads: Will not work on vehicles without the U-Connect button in the radio.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-Dod...6621%26ps%3D54

the 2009 uses the HIGH SPEED BUS, very important when ordering parts
2008 models did NOT, they had the LOW SPEED BUS

That image that you posted is definitely the Uconnect Module

By the way, the REN & RBZ radios with the High Speed Bus are basically identical
MyGIG model summary
1. Media Center 430N CD/DVD/HDD Radios (also called "uconnect tunes")

REN - MyGIG radio without navigation - North America
RBZ - MyGIG radio without navigation - North America (new replacement for REN, very similar)

more information on the chart on this page, note the Low Speed & High Speed, under Bus Speed

Well, i pulled the radio out and looked behind it. There weren't any bundled up wires, and no empty spots in the HU to plug anything into. I did find a connector back there not plugged into anything. It had 8 or 9 wires. Female plug i think. I think i've seen it before on another post. Gonna search for that. I think i'll just buy a lock pick. That way i'll also get my dvd player to work when in drive, and the ability to hook up a back up camera. Thanks for the replies GTyankee.

You don't have the iPod cable connected to your system. You see the Uconnect module in the picture, there is a 22 pin main connector that is plugged in, next to it is a connector port for a 10 pin connector. That is where the ipod cable would be plugged into, you'll need Pn 82212000. It will plug in there and then on the opposite end there is a connector to plug into the iPod.
