Default News And Rumors From The Chrysler Technical Training Center

The new super duty 4500 and 5500 trucks will have a combined tow rating of 36,500 lbs (including truck weight). The engine will produce 385 HP and 850 ft lbs of torque.

Fuel economy is expected to be in the 25 mpg range for the 3.6 engine and 8 speed trans combination and 22 mpg for the Hemi and 8 speed.

This is the last model year for the 4.7 engine.

A new diesel is in the works for the 1500 with 241 HP and 406 ft lbs of torque. Fuel economy is expected to be around 30 mpg.

The Dart SRT4 has been approved. The exact engine and trans combo is yet undecided but rumor is they're shooting for close to 300 HP.

The supercharged 6.2 Hemi is coming and so is the 'Cuda.

Multiair technology is being tried on the Hemi engine. This would eliminate the MDS and VVT features if it goes into production. Multiair is a system of actuating the intake valves with oil pressure and solenoids instead of a camshaft. It allows for precise control of lift, duration, along with opening and closing timing.

And my favorite rumor - GM will begin using Chryslers RFE series of transmissions in their trucks due to the better shift quality and durability.

Interesting stuff for sure. I'm curious about how the Cuda will fit into the overall lineup...under whose badge?

Probably SRT. That's hilarious GM using Mopar trannies. They've been promising a diesel 1500 for awhile now, dunno if I'd hold my breath that long...

Has the 4.7 just become redundant with the new Pentastar and the efficiency they are now getting from the 5.7? This must have led to the 4.7 not being a popular choice for a power plant in the truck.

The 4.7 was a great crossover between the old pushrod motors and the
Hemi.
Had one in a Dakota and loved it.
I guess the power and mileage from the new v-6's are making it obsolete.

Well, I guess there will be a few more companies out there trying to find a way to beef up the rfe trannies to actually hold power if GM is going to start using them. At least their aftermarket will get some help.

I do believe that there is a 1500 diesel to come, it only makes sense.
As far as Chevy using the RFE....I doubt it. Dodge is great when it comes to power plants, but have always been known for missing the mark when it comes to the transmissions.
