Default Adding Uconnect rearview mirror

Has anyone added the Uconnect reaview mirror part #55157457AC? I just ordered the Uconnect kit and 430 RBZ and really would like to add this mirror. Does the mirror include auto-dimming? Is there just one cable that runs from the mirror to the Unconnect box? I hoping that once I remove the basic stock mirror the new one will slide right on.

I was told by an online dealer that this mirror would only work with NAV units, is this correct?

The mirrir came on my 2009 with the RES radio, was wired into the UConnect module.. When I changed out the RES to an RHR radio (730n) I had to get another cable and wire the mirror directly to the back of the RHR radio.. I also had to disconnect the UConnect module because it was built into the radio. It worked with either setup.

I believe you will still need the Uconnect module with the 430n radio and it will still get wired into the module.

The mirror does include auto dimming.

Thanks for the information, Andy! Do you happen to still have the cable you removed? If so, could I purchase it from you?

I didn't remove the old cable, because the one end of the new cable was a "y" connector setup where it went between the original connector and the mirror, and the other end I had to route to the back of the radio.

Sorry,

Andy

I see that the harness has two connections, one to the radio and I'm not sure where the other one goes. Any ideas? Is it the connection for auto-dimming?

The auto dimming is built into the mirror. It requires power (+12v) and ground, and then there is about 6 wires for two microphones that need to go to the Uconnect module (all radios but RER and RHR) or the back center connector of the radio (RER and RHR radios only). It also gets wired into the reverse light circuit so the dimming will go away while backing up.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head.

I'll just throw this out there for you to chew on. The mic in the rear view mirror is the absolute worse location for the mic. You will have better VR command recognition as well as people being able to hear you better by putting an external mic on the "A" trim area near the drivers visor.

Agreed that the placement isn't the best location. Perhaps the absolute best would be the center of the steering wheel, but the air bag preempts that. I replaced the OEM mirror with one that had a monitor in it for my reverse camera. I just had to add two wires for that.. And then I opened the mirror and added two microphones to the front face so I didn't have to rewire the truck to put the microphones elsewhere. It still doesn't like having the heater on defrost very much.

the rear view mirror you ordered should all be plug and play with the RBZ unit. On the back of the RBZ it should just plug right in, although a trip to the local dealer may need to be in hand of course. What head unit are you upgrading from?

The RHR and the RER are the only two radios that have the Uconnect system built into the radio and require that the mirror be connected directly to it. The RBZ and all other radios utilizes the Uconnect module that the mirror plugs into and does all of the voice recognition commands and bluetooth.
