Default Newbie Needs Assistance - Trans Fluid & Spark Plug

First, let me express my gratitude for the collective knowledge on this forum. Been lurking for nearly a year (with membership). The volume of information I've gained is incredible.

I'm about to start my 30k service & I'm doing it myself. Having done all of my own oil changes I must say that I'm no mechanic, just an experienced home DIYer. Before beginning, I've got 2 questions:

1) When adding/refilling transmission fluid, the new fluid goes into the transmission dipstick tube, right? I see no separate fill, like for the engine oil change.

2) What size do I purchase for the spark plug socket? I'm using NGK standard copper (LZFR5C-11). They're on their way from RockAuto.com and I want to purchase the socket before the plugs arive.

Also, if anyone can recommend a good spark plug socket to use, I would appreciate it. I've got a good assortment of extensions & u-joints in 3/8" and 1/2" drive.

Thanks.

I would buy, actually i did lol, a magnetic spark plug socket. Is the trans service really at 30k now? My 04 was 100k, but yes that is where you put their fluid in.

Look at your Owners Manual, your transmission does not need servicing yet, unless you use it as a taxi, considered heavy duty service
The fluid is put in the transmission dip stick, when it is needed

Spark Plugs all used to be 13/16th socket size
Lately more & more of them are 5/8ths socket size

because of the tight fit, i suggest using a piece of straight rubber hose to remove the old plugs, after they are loosened
Use the same hose to start the threads on the new plugs, use a dab of Anti Seize too

i use a tool that is made just for spark plugs installation & removing, the large end is for your hand, the small end slips over the spark plug

Default Thanks!

Thanks guys.

I'm changing my transmission pan to a mag-hytec unit, that's why I'll need to refill the transmission fluid.

While at it, I'm installing a mag-hytec rear diff cover also.

Got the rubber tube tip covered for the spark plugs. Using a 6" section of 3/8" air line hose.

Guess I'll have to wait for the plugs to arrive to be sure.
