Default Alternator problems on 88 dodge ram 318

Hey as some of you know i bought an 88 dodge truck that sat for 7 years and i when i drove it home i tried to restart it and the battery was dead so i charged it and got it started to move it around the yard. So i know the alternator isnt working but it was good before it was in the accident and parked. It was seized when i bought it but i got it unseized and it wont work. I was told by a friend to tap on it why the engine was running to free up the brushes but it didnt work. But on the inner fender on the drivers side there are some electrical boxes that arent plugged in and i am wondering if that may be the problem or is there something wrong with the alternator inside. I tried to find a wiring diagram for the truck but i cant find anything so if anybody can find one for me that would be great to. Thanks

It could be an alternator or external regulator problem. I would recommend taking them both off the truck and having them tested.

The regulator is inside the alternator on that truck so i wouldnt be able to take it out for them to test it unless they test them when they test the alternator. I want to figure out what the electrical box things on the inner fender are so that i can plug them in and see if that is whats wrong with it.

It the regulator is in that alternator, it's not a stock alternator. You're getting into a model year where the regulator was transitioning from the firewall to inside the computer.

If you don't see one of these on the driver side firewall it's in the computer.

The regulator isnt on the firewall unless i have never seen it or its hidden somewhere. I was told by a mechanic that it is inside the alternator and 87 and older they were on the firewall. I dont know if he is right or if you are right because if it is on the firewall im going to replace it and not have it tested since it should be cheap at my local parts store. I will have them test my alternator to but im pretty sure it is good.

Ok i figured out that the regulator isnt on the firewall and it isnt in the computer so i know that it is in the alternator. Is there anyway to test it with a multimeter to find out if it is bad? I dont want to buy a new alternator or anything so if anybody has any info please help i need to get it working so i can start driving it next month.
