I would be pulling a slant load or stock trailer... and I have a 1 ton diesel in my yard if I need it.. Like I say I want it as more of a DD and for some wheeling...

I would look at the 2500, you won't see much difference in MPGs around GP running a 1500 w/ MDS vs a 2500 w/o MDS, mostly due to the altitude and number of months with cold weather.

If you do the 2500 you wouldn't need a load leveling system like a 1500 really does for higher tongue/hitch weights. The rear springs really squat, plus the lighter truck will get pushed around a lot more in our lovely wind.

For wheeling, there are lots of options for the 2500s, especially if you find an HD with 8-lugs then you have expanded a LOT more in terms of options, and there are several good accessory stores in GP. You can still easily do a 2" level and run 35s or go to a 4" lift and run 37s like so many others up that way.

Seeing as you have a backup when the goin gets tough, i'd grap a shiny 1500 and enjoy it!
