When was shopping for an air intake system for my Cummins, a friend recommended that I go to ---psmdiesel.com--and read the information they have compiled on air intake systems for diesels. Even if you don't buy their product the information they have is outstanding and will help you make a much better informed decision when you do purchase one/or not. I believe it should be required reading before you go out and spend a lot of money on an intake system. IMHO

well, this is strange, I went out to start trouble shooting, started the truck to move it in my garage, and no light this time, so I just took it for a drive, got up on the high way, and back off, no check engine light..i guess ill keep an eye on it.

i did notice however, that now my MPG are all over the place, and actually lower then I was getting before...and there must be some coating in all that new intake stuff, when I parked my truck in the garage and shut it off, i can def. smell smothing buring off, like my truck is brand new again...well its only got 3600 miles anyways

Make sure you have nothing in the tube... Just asking... I know a guy who left a small cleaning rag in the intake tube and it sucked into the turbo.

Check engine light should be fine, might have just been thrown off at first. I would double check and go through everything. I dont see why it would smell like that.

well, drove into work today. the check engine light flickered when i first started the truck, but didnt come on.
On the highway, im getting 17 MPG, which is 2 more than I used to get.
But around town, the mileage is way worse. I used to get like 13 MPG, and now its like 8 MPG.
I drive the same, I was not expewcting the drop at all.
Normal? Ideas? will it at least get back to what I used to get?

so which one did you go with, if it all? A lot on this site makes a lot of sense, and tells me I just wasted $300 bucks!!

You didnt waste any money, something is just off somewhere. I have ran multiple AFE intakes on multiple Cummins and never had anything but positive results. Something is just off somewhere

pretty basic to install, not sure what could be off, but if mmy mileage stays this poor around town, ill be removing it and seeing it pretty quickly....i hope it gets better, i do feel the increase in power and like the 17 MPG on the highway, just worried when i tow my camper to flordia in april the milage will tank

It would seem logical that the open design of the heat shield would still draw in hot under the hood air? AFE makes a completely enclosed box design that draws from the fender like the factory box and an opening below the box. I'm wondering if I should exchange mine for hat one. Any thoughts?
