Default Dipping RPMs and sporadic temp. gauge?

Since no one responded to my other post, I'll try again, with a shorter description. Just the other day, my truck started to act funny. When the engine temp. is still cold-ish (halfway between running temp. and full cold), the RPMs dip down when I'm at a complete stop, like it wants to die, but doesn't. If it's in PARK, it doesn't do it so much. I also noticed my temp. gauge is all over the place at times. Not sure why it's doing this.

Any ideas?

Start with the obvious. Check your coolant level and condition. The erratic idle could be from a dirty throttle body and/or blown plenum pan gasket, so check for that first.

Everything seems to be running fine now. No chugging and sporadic temp. gauge. I think the battery being totally drained maybe messed with some of the computer learned codes. Either that or it was the nasty cold snap we had for a couple of weeks that messed with it also. Thanks for the response!
