Default 2012 Ram Laramie 4x4 w/ Stock Chrome Clad Wheels

I've spent some time searching forums and notice peoples tire searches and how hard it is sometimes to find something close to whatever your rig is. I wanted to share what worked for me.

The biggest obstacle with the stock wheels is the Upper Control Arms and how to avoid them.

In the end I opted for a taller tire at the original width. I wasn't sure how I'd like not going wider but I now think it looks great over the OEM GY Wrangler HP 275/60R20's (33x10.83x20).

I can say that my chosen tire was difficult to find and had to have them ordered. I paid $330 each but have seen them as high as $467. My understanding is that the distributers sell them to dealers for approx $320.

So here is my tire and wheel setup that works with no problems and no rubbing.

2012 Ram 1500 Laramie 4x4
Stock Height
Stock Wheels 20' Chrome Clad
Toyo Open Country M/T 275/65R20 (34x10.83x20)

Other news ... Discount Tire allowed me to test fit the Nitto Trail Grapplers 305/55R20 (33x12.01x20) tires and even though they are listed as a fit they in fact rub. In order to use the Nitto's you will need to install spacers if using the stock wheels. They price matched another dealers offer so I didnt have to drive 100 miles but I did have to wait for them to actually locate the tires. I did not test fit any of the Nitto's in the 295 range but my guess is they may rub due to the awesomely aggresive side lugs.

If you choose to do a wheel and tire package you will still have to make sure whatever wheel you choose will clear the UCA's. I think that a +10 offset will work but you will probably need to install wheel flares to keep the road off your rig. The tradeoff is that you will likely be able to use any size tire you wish.

Here is a list of popular Toyo and Nitto sizes and the conversions. When shopping purchase the set in the size that you want that is cheaper. They are essetially the same and both look great (I ran Nitto's on my 2011 F250 Super Duty):

Toyo Open Country M/T:
318/52R20 33X12.50R20
275/65R20 34x10.83x20
315/60R20 35x12.4x20
318/60R20 35X12.50R20

Nitto Trail Grapplers:
295/55R20 33x11.61x20
305/55R20 33x12.01x20
295/60R20 34x11.61x20
295/65R20 35x11.61x20
318/60R20 35x12.50R20

Also added an S&B Cold Air Intake. Easy self install, 2 hours, better MPG by approx 3, way better sound.
