Default CD player swap.

I need to get another factory 2003 Cd player. I am going to buy one on ebay but I noticed that ebay also has Dodge NEON cd players. The dodge neon cd player looks identical and the ports on the back are also identical. The stickers on top of both the ram and the neon have different part numbers. I was curious if anyone has ever installed a dodge neon cd player or a jeep cd player into a dodge ram. Will it work? They look identical but the part numbers are different. The reason I am asking is because for some odd reason dodge neon cd players are a hell of a lot cheaper then RAM cd players.

I am raising the bullshit flag on this one. I seem to think that a dodge neon cd player will work in the truck just because the technology was not that advanced back in 2002. BUT I just got off the phone with the service and parts department for my local dodge dealership. The guy on the phone said even though the cd players look identical and have the same ports on the back they are not interchangeable because each cd player is coded for a special make vehicle and VIN number.

I dont think thats true. I think he is blowing smoke trying to coax me into buying one from their dealership.

Anyone have any info what so ever please let me know what your ideas are on this.

2002 was a switch over year
you could have a pre 2000 - 2002 Ram
or a 2002 - to something like a 2006 Ram

is your radio one of these ?
http://www.oemautopartsco.com/index....%29%22&sort=3d

if it is, click on the radio & then scroll down to the bottom of the page
it has a list of the vehicles that those radios went in to

Bullshit, I've swapped HU's back and forth from my wife's Liberty and my Ram. The only HU I ever saw that was weird in that style was for the Pacifica.

I have the very bottom one on that list. I have the cassette built into mine the AM/FM/CASSETTE/CD RADIO RAZ Model. But I was shopping for the one without the Cassette because I seem to think it will work. I was just going to get the AM/FM/6CD RADIO RBQ model because it looks the same and does not have the cassett. Who uses cassetts anymore anyways? Thanks for the link

I got the RAH code that plays MP3 cd's, then got a sat radio adapter to use my MP3 player.

Why not just buy aftermarket!? For what you will probably spend on that replacement factory HU, you could buy something from a local sound shop, Best Buy or (I hate to say it) even Walmart for around the same price that will sound better, give you better tuning options, look better, and give you all the up to date gadget connectivity you might want.

Just sayin'......

You could also look at the CRUTCHFIELD website
insert your vehicles information
the site should show you several aftermarket radios that are a direct fit into your dashboard

Crutchfield too....forgot about that one.....(never been a big fan, maybe that's why).

It should be noted tho there are little to no "direct fit" aftermarket HU's. Most aftermarket manufacturers make DIN, DIN and a half, or 2 DIN HU's. None of which fit directly in your dashboard without an install kit that are sold separately from the HU. The aftermarket HU just mounts differently than the factory HU. However, some vehicles (some older Fords for sure) did have DIN sized factory HU's.

Thanks for the info guys. I found an 03 ram cd player on ebay and the guy posted it with no reserve so I got it for 12$ shipped to my door step. I am gong to install it later this week. I hate the fact that when I am driving and playing a good song for no reason what so ever my CD player just STOPs playing. The cd player was removed from the 03 ram because the owner wanted one that played MP3s and claims the cd player was on a shelf in his garage for years.
