Default Front bumper vallance

2011 RamSport

I was out on the lake yesterday driving to my iceshack to do some fishing. It was very cold (-40c with wind) and the snow was fairly deep and hard packed. Anyways, I ended up stuck in a snow drift in front of my shack. I was able to get out by rocking the truck, however, I tore 3/4 of the vallance from the driver side to the passanger side, it is now being held on by a rachet strap. I believe it got tore off while backing up in the snow drift.
I haven't had time to take a good look at it, but it seems like it is fairly important to the structure of the bumper. The plastic bumper seems to be loose now, however, I don't have any reference as to how loose it was before.
Can I just remove the vallance, or is it important for blocking snow/gravel/water etc. from entering into the motor compartment or radiator.

thanks
mark

not sure if vallance is the right name for the piece I have torn off. It is the black plastic piece that attaches under the bumper and runs from driver side to passanger side

I'm guessing you mean the "air dam"?? if so it has been debated as to the purpose and functionality of that piece. From aerodynamics on the highway to other things like blocking debris. I ripped mine off in a 4 wheeling adventure across a lake and never looked back...with the truck leveled and sittin up some i actually like the look if it without it. And I don't think it contributes much to MPG, if it does, it's negligible in my opinion. The main reason I haven't replaced it...they are pretty expensive for a piece of plastic. like over $150 i think, maybe give or take.

So I had another look at it today. There are mounting brackets behind the bumper that attach to the vallance that are broken off. The plasitic bumper is definately loose, I can move it about a 1/2 inch up and down. I think the plastic mounting brackets are attached to the frame and help hold the bumper and vallance

I have read lots of people taking their vallance off, how is everyone fastening the plastic bumper afterwards.

I'm affraid the next time I hit a snow drift, it may just rip off the plastic bumper

gonefishin... Got a pic of the ground end? I want to change my bumper to something higher off the ground, we get solid snow drifts here... If I can achieve the hight without spending $, even better... Curios how it would look

sorry just saw this post. Here is a picture, I'm not sure if it's exactly what you wanted but it shows my truck without the air dam
