Question Heater blowing at a fraction of what it should. Help please!

I did a search and couldnt find exactly what I was looking for.....similar issues but not exact....so I figured I would post up a thread to try and get some more specific info to my problem.

So today I hopped in my 2002 dodge ram quad cab 4x4 4.7l v8 , turned the heat on cause its cold out (the heat has been AMAZING in this truck until now). I got a mile down the road and I heard a "thud noise" from what sounded like somewhere in the dash....and almost immediately I lost about 90% of the air flow from all of my heater vents.

I am assuming its a blend door somewhere or something....but wanted more input on it from those of you that might know of common issues on these rams.

I can change my heat from a/c to heat and heat to a/c and I can feel a temperature change.....so I am assuming that aspect of things is still working, I can change from front vents,to floor,to defrost and I can feel it still changes to those settings as it should,my blower motor still works correctly and the fan speed still changes when I turn my speed dial, the heat core is good (still blows hot heat).....the issue is that the actual air flow is barely anything (almost the amount of air flow you would feel if you were to put it on the lowest fan speed). almost as if a flap had dropped somewhere blocking the air flow the blower motor emits.

anyone know what my issues is?. and what the repair procedure will be? ....I am hoping i don't have to yank the dash....but if I do have to....than I guess I have to lol. I can do the work myself...so thats not a big deal.

another question I had is......is there a "short cut repair?"....my wife has a 2000 jeep grand cherokee that had a similar issue but it had no heat ( had the dual climate control and the plastic hinges on the flaps snapped and they closed which left it in the A/C position).....on her jeep I pulled the glove box and took a dremel tool and cut an access panel in the heater box and gained access to the flaps and replaced them that way rather than removing the dash.

any help would be appreciated. sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance!

nevermind, I popped the glove box off and stuffed my hand up in on top of the heater box and got my fingers down into the fresh air grate and i can feel the fresh air door hinge is snapped clean off. the flap is just sitting down inside of the box. so now i know where the issue is, going to have to roll my sleeves up and remedy the issue soon before snow flies lol.

thanks anyhow.

Thanks, yeah....I actually stumbled onto the heater treater videos not long after posting this thread. Once i seen where everything was located I decided to head out real quick and feel around the truck and thats when i found that fresh air door was just laying in the box busted.

Thank you though for the info!

This is a common problem and a repair kit is available from the dealer for about $75 or so.

Default Lost again

I tried to reach the www.heatertreater.com site and wind up at a commercial A/C household repair service. What'd I do wrong? Truck heater suddenly stopped blowing hot air and its -30C...
