I have a 10' so there are no options for the trailer setting. They added that feature in 12'. My brakes worked fine but they worked when they shouldn't be, the clicking noise. I also had a SC and found a wire inside the drum that had rubbed through. Fixed that and no problems. Swapped the controller hopefully no more issues either.

I had a Tekonsha in my last truck. It was lightyears better than the Ram Factory controller I have now.

That's a shame the factory controller didn't work out. I'd have one if I had EVIC in my '12 Express. I did the P3 like you, and it is an excellent aftermarket controller. On the mounting issue, I'll show you a pic of how I mounted mine, as I didn't want the knee-banging involved in the usually below-the-dash scenario. I found a replacement dash panel at a wrecking yard for $2 and just cut the hole out to fit my P3 and screwed it to the panel at the rear. While it may not be as clean as the factory supplied face plate controller, it looks better than hanging under the dash, and it's out of the way from kneel-banging and is easily accessible like the factory face plate.

I have a 2009 and I don't have the wiring for the OEM, so I'm looking at the same mounting technique. With your experience mounting this way, would it be possible to mount it a little farther back so the top edge matched the edge of the dash panel?

Thanks,
Andy

There's some parking brake paraphernalia behind there that interfered with letting the P3 go further on my '12 if I recall. I installed it a year ago, so I'm not absolutely clear on the interference, but I was unable to push it in any further.
