Thanks for tip on the group buy! This place is already paying off. I used to work with a J. Hinkle, lol. His name was Justin though.

Well our trucks come with a cai. stock so a drop in filter should do about the same as most of the after market cai. (unless) the after market cai has a better design than our stock one's like the vararam.

The only CAI that seems to have an advantage is the s&b.
Uses the stock air inlet plus another. Better flow of the air.

If you can get one cheap, jump on it. Paired with a 85mm tb, it works.

After looking at the bench tests on CFM flow #'s on Vararam's website my suspicions were confirmed. A Green Performance panel filter in an OE airbox should have as good, if not better flow characteristics than most "CAI" setups, excluding S&B (w/ the added scoop) and Vararam. The cost of the S&B w/ the scoop puts it well above the Vararam, and even then I don't think it would match the flow #'s of the Vararam. Bottom line: IMO, unless you go with the VR setup your just as well off getting a Green HP panel filter and saving a few hundred bucks for other mods (i.e. Moe's ported TB!). That being said, if you have the coin, you can't beat the VR (esp. w/ a ported TB) in terms of performance.

so on the 2013 5.7 the stock cold air intake is just as good as aftermarket just add a filter right?
